Settings/Macros to prevent very avoidable deaths?

Hi, I'm new to ToME and I love the game and its great concepts and setting, also some very good writing. A quick question about something that's irritating me so far.
I've lost a few characters to simple carelessness and I'd like to know if there's a setting or macro I can use to give me something like the game requiring a typed confirmation for taking any action if under a certain % of health e.g. 'Warning - low health, confirm action with 'yes'', and then I having to type that in to continue. This would fire any time my health dropped below a certain point, but I wouldn't have to confirm for every single action below that health mark, just something to draw my attention to dangerous situations.
I play on roguelike only, and it's really (really) annoying to lose my best character yet (lvl 29 lich) to just hitting the arrow keys a couple of extra times when I didn't notice I was taking heavy damage. Was just a few normal ranged monsters who would have been no threat whatsoever had I been paying attention. It's easy to do if you're breezing through an area otherwise. Some might find having to concentrate all the time part of the fun, but in my view in a turn-based roguelike you should be punished/rewarded for tactical decisions, not reflexes or continual awareness of your HUD like a FPS. Dying would be much more bearable if I could attribute it to a tactical error.
Any help very much appreciated. Thanks a lot.
