ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

Hi all, I am receiving the dreaded "Login Failed! Check your login and password or try again in a few moments" message when attempting to log into the game.

I have tried:

Disabling firewall and antivirus...no help

Created a whole new account from scratch ...no help.

Ps: Logging into TE4.ORG site (not the forums)... works fine so not my username or password. I have tried resetting the password, and it did reset as I can log into TE4.ORG with it, but still doesnt work in the game.

Considering the account works fine on the TE4.ORG site, what can the matter be? Is there any logs/debugging I can look at to help?

Any ideas at all would be good. I think this is a bit more widespread than is known. (As it also happened to a friend of mine). Imagine all the people who are playing but have just given up on logging in!!.

A little update for others with the same problem.. before you login, you get a sort of "news of the day" window in the top left corner... if this doesn't show, you can bet you can't log in...

For some reason, I have been able to log in fine over the last few days (The "news" window comes up straight away).

But now it's not working again!

My observations:

1. I am logging in from Australia, if that makes any difference.
2. I have multiple NICs (Network adapters). Even though the others are disabled, and only one is enabled, I have seen a similar issue with games "binding" to the wrong adapter. This would make sense, as everything has been working fine, and suddenly after a full reboot, no go.
3. A bit of scrounging around in the forms shows that the TOME servers are on an IP range which may be considered spam-malware heavy, so might be blocked at the ISP end?.

IF it is #3, What is the address it uses?. I could use NETSTAT or some sort of wire sniffing tool, but I'm too lazy.

It may sound strange, but try switching off torrent (if you have one running) and run some other online game first. For some reason, it helped me when game chat did not work for me. I think.

Thanks for that update Tylor. You were right on the money - disabling torrent client (and peerblock) worked. Even without peerblock and just torrent, it didn't work - maybe just too much data comms. I was also getting the latest "World of tanks" client which is torrent-enabled, had to stop that too.

Good work - now I can ask noob questions of other players online, instead of just the forums

Heh, that "some other online game" I mentioned was also, coincidentally, World of Tanks
