then I go hurr derr cast spells at LUMINOUS HORROR! OH GOD! he has friends....TELEPORT!....right into an oozing horror. GG

Haha, same thing happens to me - I really enjoy this game, but every time I get to level 14-16 I end up dying. I always mean to be more cautious but then I hack n slash my way into a terrible situation and it's all over.

But I guess that's part of the fun eh? : )

Indeed! it takes superhuman patience sometimes, but I love this game.

One problem is getting too complacent in the early dungeons. To remedy that I suggest only doing two dungeons before moving on to the Old Forest. That way you'll be underlevelled and low on equipment, keeping you on your toes. Just make sure you have an escape mechanism if you need it. And of course visit the other starter dungeons later to nab the boss arties.

In general doing boss rush games is quick and fun and keeps you on edge. Try to ignore non-threatening monsters and head directly for the stairs each level. Once you kill the boss hit the recall rod and nab his stuff. No vaults, no exploring, no tedious bits. Leaves you a little less powerful, but it's very fun.

Also helps to know that certain enemies ALWAYS spawn in groups. Luminous horrors and devourers at the least always spawn in sets of 3. Wyrm's that spawn normally almost always spawn with 2 drakes and 4 drake hatchlings of the same type. Drake hatchlings usually appear in groups of 4 on there own, or with 1 drake. Later you'll learn to know that seeing one enemy of a certain type usually means more around the corner.

Oozing horrors aren't TERRIBLE, if you can see them first and dump huge nukes on them. But yeah, manaclash vs archmages is horrible. I feel more terror from devourers (due to there ability to surround you) on most characters then oozing horrors.

It also sounds like you're in the area under the old forest, which can be quite hard for newbies. It can even be rough on experienced players with a bad set of spawns. (Dreaming horrors, Worm that walks, etc.)

If I hadn't made Oozing Horrors you silly archmages would have it way too easy. I'm just evening the odds, honestly.

Oozing horrors are a breeze. A good de-greaser from your local alchemist and you can wipe them up with a rag.

Use Cilit Bang! BANG! and the dirt is gone :D

Every time I play again, my character died with one or two higher levels, until dreadfell.

Meanwhile, lurking in the inaccessible portions of the game code, the antimagic ooze-based class extends a horrible pseudopod towards the walls of reality and whispers...

This is tempting me to play an antimagic brawler. It's too bad grappling is apparently underpowered.
