How can I buy training?

I found a trainer offering to train me in Technique/Combat and Shoot (I have neither) but I can't seem to accept. The only option in the dialog is "no thanks." How can I purchase training? This is b42. Thanks in advance.

Do you have 50 (for Combat Training) or 8 (for Shoot) Gold? Do you already have the talents/categories on your character? It should show up above "no thanks" IIRC.

I have plenty of money.

I have Shoot, but 0 points in it. I can put points in it but I was hoping to buy them.

I have Technique/Combat, but it's grayed out, and I have to spend a category point to unlock it. I was hoping to purchase it so as not to use a category point.

Is that not how it works?

thats not how it works.

...What class are you playing that has combat training locked???

All purchasing those does is gives your character that tree if they dont already have it. Unlocked.

I guess I'm just misunderstanding. I was thinking they were offering training in Bow Mastery. I'm an archer, but favor slings, after taking the points out of bows on creation.

So what exactly does the 50 gp buy?

The 50 gp buys the Technique/Combat Training tree at 1.00 mastery (the one with Armor Training etc.). Most classes have it to start, but the pure casters generally don't. No points, just access. You may be thinking of Combat Techniques Active (the one with Rush and Blinding Speed) which Archers start with locked.

The 8 gp buys Shoot and Reload talents, both of which are binary do-i-have-it-yes-or-no things rather than talents you can put points in. (Technically, huge numbers of things are talents, including stuff like "has a stamina bar.") I think Archers and Temporal Wardens are the only classes that have this to start.

Yeah, I thought it was referring to Technique/Combat techniques (with Precise Strikes, Rush, Perfect Strike, Blinding Speed). Thanks.
