				1) I've noticed that there seem to be a lot more of them wandering around when I'm still at a low level. Am I imagining things and just never noticed their frequency at low character levels in previous versions?
2) I accidentally ran into one with a level 7 Cornac Mindslayer. Assuming I was pretty much doomed, I just threw everything I had at the enemies and waited to die quickly. Surprisingly, I won. Are they now scaled more to player level or did I just get super, super lucky?
I checked the changelog but didn't see anything about either question.

there might be more due to the removal of the other hostiles ie wolves bears and drakes.

They have been more balanced too, from what I understand.

I'm not having too much trouble trouncing them, for the most part, as long as I have AOE stuff avaiable, and summons, if possible.
The most dangerous parties, as far as I'm concerned, are those which have archers, which can be very dangerous. Others I normally manage to best, although as a necro I sometimes meet the problem of ending up with low necrotic, which is a handicap for the next adventurer team.

IMHO the killing configuration is 2 or 3 ranged attackers with debuffs in LOS in starting position. Practically hopeless.

Lucky teleport/phase door or movement infusion if there's cover within range. Other than that, yeah, you're screwed. Archers are especially nasty in the early game.
