Slingers: what do you hold in your off hand?

Typically a dagger, I imagine, but within them what do you go for? I've got the Unerring Scalpel currently, just makes me never miss. Thinking of switching to an 'of ruin' for +crit chance and damage though. (Ideally I'd get a Quick though, haven't found yet...)
Beyond daggers shields are an option, but are they worth the 3 generic talent points for what they can give? I dislikes their fatigue looking first, but now seeing relaxed shot a higher levels I think it might be irrelevant.
Oh, and is there an advantage to nothing (i.e. a penalty to using the offhand)?

I'm not sure if you really want me to post that here.

^Hardy har har.

But seriously, if nothing else the last line is a serious question.

Other news: found a quick dagger of ruin, so perfect.

A shield, like you are supposed to use.

Interesting... I don't envisioned slingers as a shield class. Most imagery I have for them is from the classical Roman period; light armor, fast & very dangerous... ala David & Goliath.

Using a sling is a one handed operation.. but loading it for every shot takes two hands. No shield can accommodate that, except... a rapier buckler?

Cheers,

Sling + dagger is supposed to be a great combo for rogues. For the actual Archer class I'm not sure what is intended, since you can get Dirty Fighting (I think?) but no Lethality.
