ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

Hi,
Great game but am stumbling a bit. My summoner found a bow. It says default is infinite arrows. Yet I can find no way to fire it even after equiping. Using "a" for attack yields nothing. Nor does putting my mouse over a target. I was able to use bows with my ARcher. I did not see any red requirement suggesting I could not use the bow.
What stupid thing am I doing wrong?

If you are any other class than an Archer, you can purchase the 'Shoot' talent in a Last Hope shop. Last time I checked, it cost 8 Gold.

I think mindslayers and temporal wardens start with it, too.
