Time, what is time

Yeah... so... totally new to ToME. Played quite a bit of DCSS, won it, looking for something new.

With my DCSS background (and memories of Darklands in the background), the lack of light/food resource in ToME is making me paranoid about resting. Does time passing matter? Races talk about which ones live a longer or shorter time... can I die of old age? Will I miss key content if I take too long?

Maybe this is spoiley, if so, my bad forum choice. But it seems so basic... and yet I don't know it.

Nothing of the sort no, resting is easy to do and is designed as such.

you wont die of old age either, even if you rested a *lot* you'd only pass a few years at most

Also, dying from time isn't implemented, even if you happen to pass 100 years with a cornac.

Cool. I couldn't find anything, but the aging flavor text was giving me the wiggins.

I came from DC:SS myself, Snarvid, and for a long time I had the same worries!

Don't worry, you'll get used to it. Though throughout your first few hundred character levels or so, resting extensively and at whim will always feel like cheating.

Yep, when you're in a peaceful spot, powerful talents like Grace of the Eternals and Meditation are perfectly regenerable. You're able to use your racial biggies at least once every fight.

I'm getting used to it. It's creepy... the game isn't murdering me as much as I'm used to in DCSS. I guess that's what Insane is for, but the escape tools seem much more reliable here.

Random question: If I download the next beta, do I keep my unlocks?

Unlocks transfer, saves do not.
