Spam popping up increasingly :-(

I know phpbb is fairly standardized, but can't we have just a series of simple questions (preferably about the game) to verify you're human.
they should preferably come from a pool of questions, and ask three random ones. (on user registration)
You could even have the answer written right there... Ie. Who is the author of ToME... And then the line above that write Darkgod is the Author of Tome.
What is the main world's name in ToME, and then have "Maj-Eyal" written there.
These bots will be written to spam any phpbb forum they find, not ones with specific extra registration needs.

We already have a quite efficient registration system which filters 99% of the bots out.
The few that remain we get rid of and I am always grateful when you guys hit the report button - makes my life so much easier.
So a big thank you for all of you who hit that report button.

LOL yeah!
inhervelirm should be banned, I have gained mod, but cannot ban users.
New members which are "suspect" are:
Meof22
Yeas89
Aegs37
Katyapaush
sarahing
syncNect
CheceDwette
viapsvixNeeway
....
in fact, most members with a WWW field filled in and 0 posts are "spam users" though they don't really bother us. Just to gain google rank.

You are correct they probably should be banned.
From my perspective they have done no harm until they post. At that point I normally kill them.
I do check on a regular basis the number of 0 posters with an URL as part of their UID at the moment it is not excessive. Yottle went through a purging exercise a couple of years ago and killed off a lot. The figure of 6000 springs to mind but I am not certain that was the actual amount - though it does sound good!

There is a LOT of spam even more recently, with around 10 or so spam posts every few days. Any way to help prevent this?

Disallow links for new posters was my suggestion a few months back. Maybe a month probation period or something before you can link things.

This is under discussion by the mods currently...

Any advance on that discussion...? I really think some restriction like "no links until you have at least 10 posts" would help, if it's possible to implement.
