ToME: the Tales of Maj'Eyal

I'm not sure if this is a bug or just part of a quest or something stupid I did, but is there any reason why I'd suddenly not have my rod of recall midway through adventuring? I just noticed when I was trying to get out of one place that it was missing. I'm pretty sure I didn't do something stupid like drop it *scratches head*

Did you use the Crystal Focus?

It doesn't look like it... what would happen if I did?
