Items in inaccessible parts of the map

Are items generated in inaccessible parts of the map? It seems like the trollshaws in particular would have open space generated that you can't get to (although I haven't verified this with a scroll of magic mapping..).

If so, can artifacts be generated there?

yes, they can be.

and yes too, though bosses and exits cannot be, meaning that the game can still be completed

Think of it as a "secret vault", and bring along some means of teleportation ;)

I've started to find items generated inside walls. Mostly in tol falas/amon sul/carn dum, but also in the sandworm lair. And not because it was an open space then closed off. *shrugs* With no digging tool outside of magical or talents, I guess we are lost of such items?

items in walls of the sandworm lair are not really bugs as monsters died there leaving their stuff. However in those other places I do think it is a bug.

On a related subject, it's either impossible or greatly difficult for my warrior to hit an enemy embedded in a wall (xorns/xarens), yet his ripostes hit them normally, leaving their drops embedded in the wall once they're killed. Is this intended behaviour?

Almost certainly a bug. I've seen several cases where I couldn't attack a monster in a wall by bumping into it (normal attacks), but talents like Shield Pummel worked just fine. I have not been able to find the pattern by which this happens or does not happen.

There's no pattern to it other than the simplest: Special attacks work, regular attacks don't.
I suppose that will be fixed at some point :)

That's a great-sounding theory, but I could swear I've seen X monsters in mountains that I could attack with regular hits. And others that I couldn't. I don't know if it depends on which X monster it is, whether I'm constricted, etc.

It's a bit random yes :/
I'll try to fix it
