Ogres are missing lore...

I'm not talking about the dungeon, I'm talking about books/letters/scrolls.

The big one, of course, is Loremaster Greynot's Analysis of Races. Here's the outdated version I wrote while we were brainstorming the race:

Code: Select all

Loremaster Greynot's Analysis of the Races - Chapter X - Ogres

Possibly the humanoid race with the most unusual appearance--tall, blue skinned, with many patches of white fur--Ogres are also among the least populous of all the Civilized Races.

Their rarity owes at least something due to their sheer size; standing at about 7 and a half feet tall on average, the Ogres are the largest Civilized race, weighing at least twice as much as any other civilized race, and, as a result, eat commensurately--as a result of their immense appetites, the Ogres attempt to keep their numbers under control to prevent starvation.

The Ogres are a somewhat mysterious race in origins, due in part to the fact that the first known records of them are discussions of their (eventually successful) attempts to gain refuge in Shalore during the Age of Allure (and fewer then 400 existed at that time). No further population has ever been found that does not trace back to the "refugees of Shalore".

Of the Ogrish character, some common misconceptions are worth dispelling; yes, they are somewhat clumsy, although that is due to their sheer size, and yes they have a great deal of magical talent that frequently goes to waste because of their distractable natures, but their distractability has more to do with their keen senses then with any innate flaw in their character. Yes, they are highly likely to be found as wandering traders and mercenaries outside of Shalore, but this is not due to any greed in their natures; it is merely because their great appetites and few numbers mean that any Ogres who leave Shalore are either doing so to support their families, or for sheer wanderlust, and both professions grant them the greatest opportunities for either gold or travel.
Obviously, the physical description needs to be changed; what else needs to be changed, and where should this go in the "book", are also matters worthy of discussion.

(As to place, I'd suggest inserting it as a new Chapter 4, moving all the chapters that follow it up by one, so that, e.g., "Chapter 7 - Orcs (extinct)" becomes "Chapter 8 - Orcs (extinct)")

Also, any other places Ogres should be mentioned? (Let's assume that the author of "The Spellblaze" avoided mentioning them because of (justifiable) Ogrish paranoia).

Thanks

I'm guessing something like that went in...because I saw Ogre Lore for the Races stuff....

But it also said in a couple of places in it how Ogres and Anti-magic don't work, it killing the ogre. This is lore going directly against game mechanics there. Ogres can become anti-magic right now.

Yeah, this was a mistake on my part - I had thought that races that started with runes (i.e. Shalore, Doomelves, Ogres) were locked out of antimagic / oozemancer. It's fixed in the newest patch; the antimagic trainer will explain that they've just recently developed a new regimen of infusions that will technically replace your runes, though it'll hurt like hell and probably cut your lifespan in half (if not worse).

Ogres can go anti-magic, true enough -- but can they use anti-magic equipment? On the Ogre I'm running at the moment, anti-magic equipment makes all its racial talent unavailable. I'm probably going to have to bail out and start a new character.
