Characters are uploaded onto the server atm. This is to allow things like fighting other players ( but npc controlled ) by downloading the characters from the server.
The MD5 check is server side and is to prevent that cheated/modified characters are getting used for such features, so players dont get screwed.

Could help against: savedir alterations, cheat mode.
Could not help against: memory intervention.
Still, better then nothing.

In what part of the game can I fight other player's computer-controlled characters?
