Wolf tiles - proof of concept

Here are a couple of wolf tiles I obtained starting from a real photo and then doing some post-processing.
I was experimenting on this to make less cartoonish and stylized tiles.

What do you think about the final result and the approach used? Could it be a viable solution to obtain tiles for animals and other monsters (given a complex, realistic picture which is public domain exist somewhere for trolls, orcs, etc.)?

the main problem, is even coming from what you think is a public domain site, they still may not be, so if you do do it I would still have a file or something to keep track of where you got them and such.

Possibly yes, also I'd like to keep tiles in the same general tone, photo-realistic is nice but quite different :)

You're right, I added the wolf tile to the game and when the foul beast showed up on the map... well, it seemed soooo out of place. I am thinking now to a completely new tile set selectable via the config menu like the others. I'll try to remake the trollshaws ground tiles using (free) textures, to get the look and feel of a whole game screen.
