Hidden or not?

I understand there is an option to remain hidden while brousing the fora...
I just wanted to see the numbers of those who hide themselves who are registered. Do not respond if you do not wish to, just vote. I personally don't hide, could anyone tell me why some do?

Btw, here's to the 1000th topic on ToME/General discussion. Image

I hide because I'm a privacy freak, read too much Orwell when I was younger ;) I believe it's nobody's business whether I'm here or not - if I want to show that I'm here, I'll just post, those who are on at the same time will see that I'm here since I'm obviously posting. So that's why I do it, I don't know if other people will share with you why they do, but I think mine is a pretty common reason.

that makes sense, no I really don't care why you do or don't hide, I just was curious as to how many of our registered people do. :)

I don't bother hiding, but I often don't bother logging in either.

If I were truly paranoid, I would never have bothered to register.

I don't hide myself. It's useless - when you post, everyone knows you're there.

And anyway, once you've registered...

Of course, I originally hid myself, being somehat spam-phobic after getting my account - spam-filtered, yes - flooded with several hundred spams during a vacation.

I have only ever gotten 1, countem 1 spam from being logged into a Message board. And it wasnt some automated Spam E-mail or anything, it was just this kid trying to advertise a gamesite he was involved with.

I told em to 'Shut it' and that was the end of that.

Since theres no real point in hiding, I don't do it

I've never hidden, here anyway, and I am always logged in.

I'm somewhat of a privacy freak, too, but for some reason showing my presence on a written forum doesn't bother me. Also, I sometimes leave a webpage up on my browser all day while I'm at work, so just 'cos you see my name there doesn't necessarily mean I am present at the keyboard.

Plus, a) only a very few people on this forum know my e-mail address, and b) my email provider has some serious spamblocking. The worst spam I've ever had from this game is my own fault (email notification of PM). Gotta turn that off. And, c) I've never been spammed from a board. (Okay, some of the messages from groups on Everything can get long, but I *want* to see them, so that's not spam.)

I have never gotten spam from a message board! but then again this is my first one!

I think I understand why people would want to hide, thank you!

Those weren't from message boards. They were, in all likelihood, randomly targetted - you know, roll up an e-mail address like I might roll up a new char.

I suspect that, bad as the spam flood was, it would have been a lot worse without spam filtering. But it was still pretty awful.

I'm always logged in and visible, for no other reason than I can't be bothered to hide. But I may not actually be looking at that moment.

A funny thing, though; ever since my ISP got some new spam blocking installed, I've had a few spams, including my first ever 419. I'm almost proud

I'm tempted to bait these guys, but I can't be bothered.
