A question about how you play TOME

I'm just curious. Personally, I use ASCII throughout, except for doing the Orc Town in Moria. I'm unsure if Adam Bolt's tiles are used in TOME. My copy at school doesn't have the option, but I could swear I have it at home.

I hope you don't mind that I took the liberty of rewriting your poll, because the new tiles are derived from Adam Bolt's work. He's not the only contributor to those graphics, though. Everything specific to ToME has required new graphics.

Umm, I wasn't aware that there was a Tk graphics set. Where can I get it?

Nope. No problem at all. Actually, thanks for making it more accurate.

I play ASCII. I like tiles but it usually isn't compiled for MacOS X - I'm accustomed to ASCII ToME anyway
You know what, even if I believe I will keep playing ASCII, I am convinced the lack of great graphics is THE MAIN REASON why ToME, a *great, really great* game, has not attracted more players.
Only a few freaks (us

) keep playing games with no stunning graphical UI. There has been projects for ISO-Angband, AngbandTK (Z) and such, but nothing on ToME. I guess it's a vicious circle: not a lot of players, nobody to sacrifice himself on an altar for days integrating great tiles/graphics, no new players not attracted by lack of graphics, not a lot of players, nobody to sacrifice himself on an altar for days integrating great tiles/graphics, no new players not attracted by lack of graphics .... going on forever. So be it !

Who gives a damn? That's what I like about ToME: it gives you room to imagine what a critter might look like, instead of thrusting corny graphics in you face.

I'm pretty darn sure there isn't a ToME Tk, because I asked about it one time. If this has changed, though, I'd like to know...

Cool, though I think the dragons need... erm... a little work...
The high res is cool, as is the fact that the images show recognizable things. (In the New Tiles, a balrog looks like a pinkinsh-red box. So does an Ettin, which has caused me to die a few times when experimenting with graphics.)

Under the options menu of the main window there is a graphics branch, follow the branch and it shows the various settings, then when you click on the settings it will set a checkmark against whatever options you turn on. Click on the "New Tiles" for the graphical option. I find my New tiles work best if I increase tile height by one factor and tile width by two after I've set my tiles in bigtile mode. I like the tiles, Btw, especially since I can see things piled up on on top of the other with them where I would think that could be something easily overlooked with pure ASCII. They look good too, generally speaking, and since I'm no graphical genius, I won't complain about the ones I don't like so much since I know that I couldn't do better myself...
And thanks alot yoyoscrape, I've had SkinnyPuppy running through my head nonstop for days now because of you

I'd like to add that, while bigtile support is for windows onlyyet , pousse rapiere and I wrote a linux port, which should come out with next version of TomeTik (I hope, I don't decide those things).

I use the Old Tiles, but I believe it's easiest to use the ASCII, for with the other graphic sets at times it's more difficult to understand which is the enemy in front of you.
I find the New Tiles and the ToME Tk even more confusing...
I think more palyers could come if the graphics were better, but I think to really improve them ToME shoul pass to an ISO view. Of course that would be to much work, so nobody will do that... and so on, as Lord Satri says.
