ToME 2.3.10-ah questions

So, I made a SlackBuild for ToME 2.3.10-ah and have been playing a bit. I noticed that rangers' magic is limited. They are nothing like they were in Moria, Angband, perhaps older ToME, and also TomeNET. Is this something that has changed since 2.3.5?

No, Rangers as implemented in ToME 2 just stink.

Yeah, the way that Rangers are handled in T2 just sucks. Any of the "hybrid" classes take a backseat to the "pure" ones, with maybe the exception of Loremasters and their ilk. You'd be better off playing a straight Bowmaster/Crossbowmaster than a Ranger. Just get quest rewards and/or God quests for support skills, like Mindcraft or one of the magic schools.

This should probably be Dealt With (TM) at some point in the future. Probably by giving Rangers much higher multipliers in the magic schools.

That'd do it, probably. Something like an Arcane Archer class, maybe.

Yes, but there is no reason to give it some weird name like in 3rd ed. or higher D&D (or even 2nd ed. AD&D extra books.) It is best to use simple class names, like was done in the days of Moria and earlier plain Angband. These fancy names imply things about one's character that may not be true, and imply things about game mechanics that may not be true, and no one may ever be 100% sure what they mean. A ranger need not be an archer.

Again, something LIKE an Arcane Archer class.

A class with a mix of ranged, magical, and stealth abilities. I'm not advocating taking the names straight from D&D. But the general idea is similar.
