Mages or Sorcerors

In reference to a post on ideas, I'd like to know how people find mages vs. sorcerors, and especially plain mages, but also the specialists.

I only added a couple of the specialists, which I see gets the most attention (since I've been on the forum).

Sorcerers are easier, and in general more fun, since you don't have to make tough compromises about your specialty. Mages can be interesting too though, with enough hit points to develop into a quasi-fighter.

Since sorcerers can choose from any school of magic, they are more versatile and more fun to play with.

I've played a number of sorcerors and found them to be fun to run. The variety of spells is great, but I rarely used most of them.

Then I tried a warper with thaumaturgy. It started out a bit rough, but was rather easy later on. Although he lacked the diversity, it was more fun to see just what thaumaturgy spells came up each time I raised the skill and warper had all my most commonly used spells. I'm probably not going back to sorceror for a very long time.

I've won with two sorcerers, and in my experience, I've used every single spell frequently except those found in the mind school.

Sorcerors seem for me too easy and commonly play... and have just too many spells. Moreover, Mage class is for me the most accurate Gandalf's class, a spell-fighter. I like specialisation, too.

My official stance is that the sorcerer is easier for those learning the magic system, while those who know the magic system can create a better Mage.

The reason for this is that I find myself using only about half of the Sorcerer spells frequently at high levels, and that little extra flexibility isn't worth a 50% HP cut IMO.

There are so many good spell schools to choose from. For example Book of Beginners Cantrips has 5 different schools and all those spells are really useful.

I like to simply get some Nature, Temporal, Divination on my mages, about 30 in water, and the rest in fire. I don't think the HP sacrifices with Sorcery are worth it.

better/easier/more rounded? that's three different polls.

I apologize. Easier / better is the same (the easier just explains what the better means). More rounded is a different question. But it relates.
