what happened to the wiki?

Does anybody have a clue about what happened to the "old wiki" http://wiki.t-o-m-e.net/ ? It seems to have been down for a number of days, but I recall having seen it up a few weeks ago.

I've asked, so hopefully we will get a response soon...

Neil who hosts the site has explained:
Some undetermined MoinMoin issue was allowing that software to be used to use all available CPU and memory on the server, and it had to be disabled. I really can't leave it up to debug it when it was taking down my websites, email, and everything else.

I still have all the data though if anyone needs something from it.

Oh... that sounds bad.

A quick google search though shows that apparently there have been CPU issues with MoinMon, which are supposed to be fixed in more recent versions: http://www.mail-archive.com/moin-user@l ... 01721.html

I would propose to host it myself and deal with the upgrading, but the provider for my personal website doesn't support Python :-(

There are a number of other issues about the Old WIki which is why we transitioned to the new Doku wiki site.

Yes, I understand that the new wiki is a big improvement, and fortunately everything concerning the new Tome 4 is there from the start. However, it's a pity to have lost access to all the snippets of helpful information for the old tome (2.3.5) which is still playable and really a completely different game from Tome 4.

There is a new wiki... http://doku.t-o-m-e.net

A lot of the old content was moved, but probably not exactly what you needed.

I can understand if the wiki software is broken.

I'm wondering if it would be feasible for someone with the data to put it into a human-readable format of some kind, and put a torrent of it out there. Or just host it in that human-readable format, if it's small enough. I, personally, would seed it, if a torrent were required. Would be a big help to people who are still interested in ToME 2.3.5, because it's really the most comprehensive resource on the game available to anyone who doesn't have the desire to muck through the source code, which is often not exactly clear. For now, anyone looking for a spoiler for ToME 2 is kinda SOL.

I will ask...

[Update]I am not in favour of having a torrent file out there. I would be in favour of porting the pages across to the new wiki. Given the sheer number of pages involved I believe it should be done by a group of people... who are familiar with the new syntax on the wiki!

I'm willing to be one of this "group of people", that is to transcribe part of the old wiki, provided I'm given access to it . I'm not familiar with the new wiki's syntax but have used other wikis, so I guess I could learn without too much trouble. Also, transcribing (a non-spoiler) part of the old wiki would be a way to learn a bit more about the game, since I'm still new to it.

[edit: corrected typo]

Thank you, I am working on getting it all...

Neil has advised me that the associated tarball for this is very, very huge!

He is working on getting the wiki back up so we can port the stuff across to the new Wiki.

Let you know as soon as I have anything.

You can currently read every article on the wiki if you edit the URL.

For example, clicking the link sends you to:
http://wiki.t-o-m-e.net/tomewiki-engine/SpoilerArchive

But if you cut that down to
http://wiki.t-o-m-e.net/SpoilerArchive

It loads.

As do all the subpages:
http://wiki.t-o-m-e.net/Spoilers/Oneliners
http://wiki.t-o-m-e.net/Spoilers/Instakill

etc etc

You can't edit (as you can't logon, I don't think), but you can view the page sources by editing the URL again:

http://wiki.t-o-m-e.net/SpoilerArchive?action=raw

No promises, but I may try to start migrating things over to the new Wiki (by hand) this weekend, depending on my workload.

I was also wondering what happened with the old wiki. It's nice having a new one for t4, but I was looking for information from the old one that apparently can't be accessed anymore.

Specifically, I was interested in re-reading the old DitL stories. I'm most interested in the ones done by myself (old wiki username JackLohman) and ZizzotheInfinite.

Try this: http://web.archive.org/web/200805191318 ... ifeArchive

While your at it, why not port some of them over the new wiki?
