How do YOU pronounce this?

#1 Post by ekolis »

Just curious... how do you pronounce those greater versions of regular items that do more, such as *Identify* and *Slay Demon*?

edit: I pronounce it "star-identify" :P

I just pronouce it like this: *identify*

Seriously though I just emphasise the whole word, especially the beginning I.

Um... I've never said it out loud, come to think of it. Shouting it out as a heraldic "IDENTIFY!" seems a little overkill. I might call it major identify or true identify, I guess. Or, as Christopher has already mentioned, "*Identify*". :D

Never really thought about it before, to be honest. A lot of the facets of this game I just internalize as for granted. After all, if you're using ASCII mode as I do, you always rub your hands together with glee when you see a "M" wandering about south of Bree. (Either that or you run for your life....)

I don't pronounce it either. I store it in my head in a written form. It has never came up in any discussion so far.

I don't speak it loud, either, and write *ID* or *Identify*.

Having said that I don't really pronounce *Identify*, I've thought about it a bit, and have to confess that when I see a *Defender* weapon, I do usually think, de-FEND-er.....

Not sure why, I always call it "high identify", possibly the extra i-i-i sounds make it appealing.

I never thought about it, but from now on I will always think of *ID* as Iiii-DENT-ify in UT manner - gotta love those announcements sounding in my head : Iii-DENT-ify, Slaaay DE-mon and, in case of genocide mo-mo-mo-MONSTER kill

What Nerdanel and MM said; I don't generally speak out loud of ToME details. If at some point I should really really have to pronounce it, I'd probably do the same thing I do with other asterisk-surrounded text: make the asterisks with my hands while saying "identify".

I've always thought of *identify* as 'identifnyah', but what I actually say more is *slay foo* things as 'suh-huh-lay foo'!

In person, I use a flick of the fingers to denote asterisks. On the phone, I pause slightly before the word.
