Gluttons are cursed with insatiable Hunger, which they use as a resource. It increases over time, and gives benefits and penalties depending on the current amount they have. They can Devour creatures, which they can then Digest to learn talents that the creature knew. Since they can gain talents, they start with few categories. This is the basic class concept, and I hope you have fun with it. Disclaimer: the Glutton is very unbalanced right now (hence the alpha status). I welcome and encourage any feedback.

Thanks to all of #tome for their help. Special thanks to FlarePusher and Draknodred for helping me flesh out the class concept and for developing talent ideas, to natev for a lot of help but especially for letting me build off his resource code, and to Fayd for design ideas, including but not limited to the Pica tree and other forthcoming talent trees.

0.0.1:
First release!

0.0.2:
- Fixed talent gain from digestion.
- Fixed generic, category, and prodigy point gain on levelup.
- Made Inhale's range "official".
- Fixed directory structure.

0.0.3:
– Hunger no longer affects global speed.
– Starvation threshold is higher. This means you start getting penalties from Hunger at higher Hunger levels.
– Base, object, inscription, racial, undead, and prodigy talents are now excluded from talents you can learn from Digestion.
– Decreased stat point gain from Digestion.
– Added temporary icons for all Gluttony talents.
– Fixed a bug where Inhale would throw an error on use.
– Fixed a bug where Catabolize would throw an error on an empty stomach.
– Catabolize is now instant.
– Lowered cooldown of Catabolize from 75 to 60.
– Halved the global speed bonus from Anabolism.
– Salivate's daze power now scales with mindpower in addition to CON.
– Devour now does damage. You will Devour an enemy if the damage is enough to kill it.
– Digest and Catabolize can now be activated only if your stomach is not empty.

0.0.4:
– Devour now ignores instakill resistance. >:)
– You can now learn talents from Digesting any creature.
– Decreased effect of Hunger on life regen so that at max Hunger, your life regen will stay above 0.00 at the start of the game.
– Decreased stat bonuses from Digestion (again). You no longer gain stat points from Digesting elites.
– You are now granted 10 stat points on birth.
– Fixed Devour targeting message.
– You no longer start with the Combat Techniques category.
– You can no longer Devour self-resurrecting creatures.
– Digest, Catabolize, and Regurgitate now each display the next creature to be used.
– Catabolize now displays the Catabolize results for the next creature to be used.

0.0.5:
– Talents learned from Digestion are now capped at both the effective level of Gastric Acid and the level at which the digested creature knew the talent.
– If you already know a talent at or above maximum learnable level, then that talent will not be selected for a learning attempt.
– Fixed learning object talents like Block, Command Staff, Shoot, and Reload.
– Telekinetic Grasp is now unlearnable directly from Digestion.
– Increased stat gain from bosses from 2 to 3.
– Now works with Classic UI.

0.0.6:
– You can now unlearn a Digested talent from the right-click menu in the use-talent menu ('m').
– Added a new talent, Excrete, which is learned automatically with Digestion and is used to immediately remove a creature from your stomach.
– Added effect icons.
– Ward is now excluded from Digestable talents.
– Gorge now correctly Devours enemies even if it applies enough extra physical damage to kill them.
– Inhale's use range is now correctly 0.
– Removed Catabolize's Hunger increase.
– Decreased cooldown on Catabolize.
– Digestion is now uncancellable.

0.0.6a:
Fixed a bug that caused talents to be learnable past the cap restrictions if the digested creature had more than one talent.

0.0.6b:
– Digesting no longer stops you from entering the world map.
– Learnable talents are now limited to the level of Digest instead of the level of Gastric Acid.
– Regurgitate and Catabolize are now disabled if your stomach is empty.
– Decreased Gorge's damage scaling with talent level.

0.0.7:
– You now gain stat points normally (per level) instead of from Digesting creatures.
– Learned talents are now capped to the raw level of Digest instead of the effective level.
– The total level of learned talents is now capped to your total Constitution.
– The number of talents learned from Digestion is now capped based on your Constitution. You can forget talents to learn new ones.
– There is now a new category, Pica. The skill “Pica” has been renamed to “Eat Walls” and moved to the Pica category, which contains Eat Walls and three new skills: Consume Item, Swallow Gem, and Consume Artifact.
– A new talent, Predation, has replaced Pica in the Feast category.
– Catabolize has replaced Gastric Acid in the Digestion category. A new talent, Voracity, has taken its place in Famine.
– Rares can no longer be Gluttons.
– Endless Hunt, Predator, and Cursed Form categories now start unlocked.
– Unlearning a talent now unlearns only those levels learned from Digestion.
– The option to unlearn a talent now appears only when that talent has levels learned from Digestion.
– Eat Walls (previously Pica) now correctly satiates Hunger.
– Regurgitate now displays its radius while targeting.
– You can no longer Devour Regurgitated creatures.
– You can no longer Devour yourself.
– You can no longer learn golemancy talents.
– You can no longer learn the golem talents Armour Configuration and Self-Destruct.

– Devour now has decreased power as well as diminishing returns.
– Gorge's damage has been decreased.
– Digest now has diminishing returns on its cooldown.

0.0.7a:
Mousing over CON in the levelup dialog now displays your current and maximum number and total levels of Digested talents.

0.0.7b:
– Passive talents can now be unlearned. As a side effect, they can also be bound or automated, which does nothing.
– Fixed a typo bug related to the radius of Regurgitate.
– Fixed a bug where killing enemies with Devour wouldn't devour them.

0.0.7c:
– Voracity now works.
– You can no longer learn Dredge Frenzy, Frenzied Leap, or Frenzied Bite.
– You can now eat trees with Eat Walls. (thanks to Zonk)
– Devour messages now display in the correct order.
– Digest no longer falsely claims to grant you stat points.

0.0.8:
- Added a new generic tree, Gourmand, with talents that improve your class abilities.
- Devour now satiates less Hunger.
- The Digestion effect now grants 0.15 Hunger decay while active.
- If you reach maximum Hunger, you now automatically use Digest.
- Excrete is now instant.
- Added a new talent, Consume, which is similar to Excrete except that it takes a turn and satiates Hunger.
- Devour now has a 3-turn cooldown.
- You now start with Unnatural Body and Combat Accuracy in addition to Devour and Digest.
- You can no longer learn Empty Hand.
- Digest talent info now lists the talents you've learned from Digestion and their levels.

Hahahaha, I was thinking about a similar concept for a grappling-based melee corruptor class a few weeks back, but was too busy working on other things to come up with more than the basic concept.

Looking over the skills, you have a tier 2 passive, Gastric Acid, that does nothing but buff a tier 4 skill. I'd move Regurgitate to 2 and Gastric Acid and Anabolism back one.

Just started a new char with this addon.
It's a good idea, but how do you devour bosses/elites?
Most bosses are immune to instadeath(that means no devour) and most elites too(i think).
Maybe add a passive instadeath resistance penetration talent?
Otherwise its a really good addon idea.

Sounds very interesting so I gave this addon a try.

Starting was really hard without any skills, but managed to kill first boss. (which was immune to instadeath), when finally I got a rare and managed to eat it game goes crazy when it get diggested.

I get a stat point but after that games goes crazy (talent bar dissapear) and second turn I lose control of the game, no lua error or anything.

Also:

A) I get a chance to obtain cursed talent tree on first weapon, is it intended?

B) I don't get generic points on levels! Only 1 point to use, so no weapon training/acurracy or armor training, or even racials!

Really cool. Here's my first thoughts:

1) You've got it set to version 0.0.1 in the init. That version isn't the version of the add-on; it's the version of Tome that it's designed to work with. So it should be 1.0.1. Similarly, if you make the zip such that it contains data, superload, hooks folders, etc, rather than the tome-glutton folder, people can just pop it in without worrying about anything.

2) It looks like you get bonuses and penalties based on your hunger/satiation; it would be nice to know what those exact numbers are. You could add those to the Hunger tooltip pretty easily. Maybe they only come with later talent levels?

3) Some images, even placeholder images, repurposed images from other talent trees, would be nice; it's hard to play when looking at a row of question marks :)

4) Digest info could definitely be improved; this is a novel mechanic, and players won't know what to expect, to the point that they may not even invest in it! Is it worth digesting common mobs at all? It gives permanent bonuses, right? What gets bonuses? If you eat 2 creatures, then digest, do they both get digested? Does one get digested and the other wasted? What if you eat a common mob then a rare? Etc.

5) Pica gave me the Pica timed effect, but I didn't know how to eat through walls. I tried it on the forest, so maybe you can't eat through trees? Just bumping them didn't do anything.

6) Inhale is really fun, really cool. Can you give it an official talent range so that it doesn't show up as melee/personal on the generated summary?

7) It looks like you treat your bar two different ways: as hunger, and as negative satiation. That could be confusing. I would recommend presenting either one or the other to the player; or, if you don't want to do that, consistently describing your resources as both. (Like in the resource tooltip, it might say "Hunger/Satiation".)

8) Your text says Con is really important, but why? I don't see any stat scaling mentioned in any of your talent infos.

9) The talents themselves are really imaginative, I love them.

dosent work. Changing it to a .teaa dosent put it in the list of addons, even checking show incompatible it wont show up.

You have the filestructure wrong.

yours is setup as tome-glutton.teaa/tome-glutton/subfolders

it should just be tome-glutton.teaa/subfolders

Maybe I'll add a grappling tree at some point... ;)

Gastric Acid is planned to buff more skills in the future, probably.

Bosses and uniques are instakill-immune, elites and randbosses are not. If it doesn't turn out too OP, I might make Devour ignore instakill immunity...

cakemaster wrote:

Good idea. Unfortunately, instakill is currently an immunity, not a resistance.

Fixed.

It is intended, but I might remove it if you don't think it fits the class theme. I just thought that all Afflicted should have it.

Those are currently listed in the Anabolism talent. I'm not sure if they're completely accurate, though. I'll see if I can add them to the Hunger tooltip.

Good point. That'll probably be in the next version.

This is a good point; I didn't even think much of it after working with it for so long. I should definitely add more info on digestion. As for these specific questions:
1. Digesting common mobs does nothing except empty your stomach. Maybe it should give some sort of bonus.
2. You get stat points from digesting elites and above. You learn a talent from digesting anything that has a class.
3. Your stomach can hold any number of creatures. You digest one creature at a time.

nate wrote:

You can't eat through trees, even diggable ones. I don't know why this is, but Pica does work on walls.

Done.

I'll probably use the "Hunger/Satiation" idea. I really like having the Hunger resource fill up over time (I think it's thematic), but I understand how it can be confusing. I didn't want to say "hunger loss" because that doesn't make much sense, so I decided on "satiation", which I think is also thematic. I'll see what I can do to clarify.

nate wrote:

I think just the daze power of Salivate scales with CON. I should probably make more talents do that or take out the CON emphasis in the description.

Thanks!

Oh boy, I just devoured Voralle the wolf, a summoner rare. Let's see what talent I get!

*StarKeep learned Attack!*

Gaaaaaaaaame!

Also, on the boss thing, would it not be possible to set it to bypass the immunity at, say, 1/4th the normal % level?

This will be fixed in the next version :)

I was wrong earlier; instakill does indeed appear to be a resistance, so it's possible to penetrate that resistance. Gastric Acid will most likely do that.

Just some thoughts from playing around (L17 currently, just past the Ruined Dungeon. I'd link to the profile, but something made it decide the game was invalid. Feh.)

- If ever a class needed a starting zone, it's this one. If your starter dungeon has no rares and, god forbid, something like a skeleton warrior? Enjoy slowly plinking it, or more likely getting stomped by it. Norgos was similarly hideously awfully boring. A way to get something even as mundane as poison spit would really help the early game be tolerable.
- Making Devour more like Swallow in that it actually does some damage and checks afterwards to see if you brought it low/killed it would be much nicer. It's frustrating to accidentally kill low-health rares on recoil damage or with (un)lucky crits. It'd also let Gorge be replaced with something more interesting, since Gorge is kind of lame as a capstone.
- Catabolize should probably be instant.
- Really needs a tooltip either in the buff bar or on Digest itself that shows what's in your stomach. Possibly even showing what they'll Catabolize into.
- Hunger taking regen below 0 is honestly really annoying, as it makes auto-exploring an unholy mess involving auto-use regen infusions (or just wearing regen gear because screw it).
- Conversely, the Anabolism-boosted global speed is probably too high. While running around with permanent 200%+ global speed is nice, it's probably not intended for my approach to be 'eat as few things as possible'.
- Digesting Unnatural Body is a real pain in the ass, as it apparently treats you as having 0 hate when you don't have a bar. Enjoy -50% healing mod until you get lucky! Worse, you don't even get the life regen after kills.
- After a while, though, it starts to get really hilarious: I have three stats maxed (str/con/wil) and am working on the fourth, a Mindslayer rare gave Kinetic Leech which gave.. yup, Telekinetic Grasp and Beyond the Flesh, and I have a bunch of funny stuff like two kinds of traps, Perfect Strike, and Born into Magic off some unlucky Higher rare.
- Golems count as elite, and are digestible. I haven't been lucky with eating Alchemists yet so I don't know for sure, but you might be able to eat your own golem repeatedly for stats. Delicious.

Bugs encountered:

- Catabolizing with an empty stomach throws errors instead of the 'Your stomach is empty!' warning.
- You can Digest Attack and resource pools, apparently. And Block. Attack has an effective talent level of 7.0 right now, which is funny, but worthless.
- Talents learned through Digest can have points taken back out of them.
- Inhale is spitting this error on every use attempt:
Code:
stack traceback:
   [C]: in function 'error'
   /engine/interface/ActorTalents.lua:151: in function </engine/interface/ActorTalents.lua:134>

Going to keep playing, though, because this is silly in a fun way.

More stuff!:

- Salivate's daze doesn't seem to work at all: it applies and then instantly falls off. (Does it check with Spell Power? That might explain it.) The Saliva debuff itself sticks fine.
- You can Devour Regurgitated enemies and then Regurgitate them again. Hilarious, but a bit odd.
- Sometimes Regurgitated enemies stick around forever. They won't follow you across levels, though.
- Subject Z is edible. Who knew?
- Ben Cruthdar isn't, though.
- Celia is!
- ... So is her Forgery of Haze, which gives full boss-quality digestion.
- Meanwhile in the Pikataclysm, you can kite Mad Druids around to turn bunnies into bosses. All of them. And all of them give a talent and 3-4 stats. Fun, but I don't think I'm supposed to max *everything* by level 20...
- The Catabolize error:
Code:

The early game is definitely a problem. I'll see what I can do.

Done. I may replace Gorge with something more interesting if I come up with something.

Definitely. Upcoming.

Yeah, I might see if I can make it so max Hunger just makes your life regen 0.

Global speed mod removed.

How? They shouldn't show up on the point assignment window.

Salivate's daze power scaled only with CON. It now scales with Mindpower as well, which might help.

After CNAshel posted this, we worked it out ingame. Regurgitated enemies' durations don't tick down when they're out of sight. They use the normal summon AI, so this may happen to all summons. If not, I'll have to look into it more.

- Celia is!
- ... So is her Forgery of Haze, which gives full boss-quality digestion.
Cool!

Well, that's DarkGod's fault. ;)

Also, I seem to be missing the point of this class but...whats the point?

I admit I didnt play long, only cleared 2 starter dungeons, but the entire time I was eating whatever enemy I could (obviously not bosses). And I get nothing from it. No stat points, no talent points, didnt learn any new talents.

It would be super cool if it was like the blue mage from FF9 (Quina) where eating enemies let you learn their talents but, it dosent seem to be happening?

Read your ability text a little closer...

You get stats/talents from rares and bosses, stats only from elites. Everything else is hunger/catabolize/regurgitate fodder.

It can be a little problematic if you don't get much in the way of rares in the early game, since most starter bosses have instadeath protection - I recommend canvassing towns for anything you can pull off into a corner and eat. When that's addressed, it'll be much easier to get rolling.
