So, you're sorting through all your piles of stuff on the fortress storage room floor to see if you have anything you might want to swap in. For a single object on the floor, you can just hover over it and read the tooltip; there's probably more than one object in the pile you're interested in, though, so you have to physically walk your character over onto the pile and use the pick-up-from-floor dialog, which can be a bit of a hassle (especially if you accidentally cross over that pile of artifact gems you didn't mean to auto-pickup).

Hence my new Examine Floor Stack addon. Now you can simply right-click on a object or pile of objects on any grid you can see and choose "Examine objects on floor" from the map menu, which will bring up a slightly modified pick-up-from-floor dialog (specifically, modified so that you can't pick things up  ). Since the dialog is otherwise unmodified, it should work seamlessly with other addons that modify dialogs in this area, including Enhanced Object Compare.

[edit 2017-07-15: Technical info]
Code:
Superload:
  mod.dialogs.MapMenu:
generateList() [to add "Examine object(s) on floor" action as appropriate]

Quick question while I'm in the neighborhood: a Steam user has requested that this addon also provide the ability to pick up objects off the floor. Now, obviously that would be abusable, as it would allow you to yoink things off the floor from behind NPCs you can't get past or from otherwise inaccessible vault areas; but the petitioner further suggested that this change could be restricted to work only in the fortress.

So: assuming it's feasible to implement, what does the local commentariat think? Would the ability to pick stuff up off the fortress storage room floor from across the room be considered cheating, or just a nice convenience feature?

Well, since no one objected, I'll go ahead and push that change out as v1a.

Having gotten accustomed to the aforementioned remote pick-up functionality in the fortress storage room, I suddenly missed in EoR's Ruined Cave. Easy enough to add, of course; that's going out as v1b. Note that, in the spirit of avoiding abusability as noted above, this only kicks in after you've killed all the hostiles in the cave (which shouldn't be a problem, as there probably won't be anything on the floor before then).
