Since ppl where saying cursed where OP I decided to give them a try.
About 4 of my characters got to Bill and then died. Gloom didn't do enough, and my dmg was absolutely pathetic, hitting for about ~20 dmg each turn.
Then I decided to farm the low level elf dungeons before fighting bill. After I managed to kill one boss and finally moved beyond level ~3-4 things began getting easier. That first boss got me to level 7. Then things became really easy and I became careless. I died a few times and resurected. Since I am not playing roguelike I feel like cheating.
Eventually I went to the east. I barely noticed I was killing the master right before he was dead.

Died to a overpowered patrol right outside the cave exit when you arrive in the east.

Looks like the east is much harder than before. My previous character also had a hard time with those patrols (surprising how hard they are!) and he died in the spider cave. Maybe the east was always this hard, but the mid-game easier now.

Cursed seem to be to hard in the beginning (like really not fun). Then they become near invincible in the mid-game.

I wouldn't say they're "not fun" in the beginning. Although it's certainly true that they become much stronger past the early game.

It looks like you didn't get a chance to explore some of the talents. You really want to look at Blindside and Reckless Charge, though. Blindside allows you to teleport to any monster within your ESP range. Walls? What walls? Reckless Charge is a short-range mobility talent, somewhat like Rush -- but instead of charging directly into a monster, you designate a path, up to 4 tiles long, and you charge along that path, and you get automatic attacks on every enemy in every square adjacent to that path. (It can also be used to move away from monsters, should you ever want to do that -- not that you typically would.)

That ESP range. The one you would've had had you taken Preternatural Senses -- the best monster detection ability in the game, period.
