Hi,
After I did the Grushnak Pride (incl. Boss) and left the zone, my PC crashed (not a ToME issue) a while after. When reloading today my char was still where the last "real" save was performed. However the Pride itself was saved (though not the char) when I left Grushnak before the crash. The result is: I do still have the Orcrist achievement, all of the map is covered up, some items I IDed and dropped are still on the ground and the pride boss is not there anymore - meaning his ring is permanently lost to me... Maybe deleting the corresponding savefile will help as a workaround - I'll try that later.
But the real issue is, that this could turn out to be a gamebreaking problem: Just imagine this wouldn't have been grushnack but one of the other prides and one of the orbs were lost. Resulting in a broken game since it can't be completed anymore.
I was always wondering anyways why the game performs a partial autosave. Okay, I guess for memory management and speed issues but the way it works not - as seen - it can bring the game out of consistency. Saving the character in addition to the zone should help as a fix.

I agree, an auto-save of the game, zone and player on changeLevel (or just changeLevel when it changes zones) should work, and may already be in-place for the easy difficulty mode.
<DarkGod> lets say it's intended

If you delete the zone file in the HOME/t-engine/4.0/tome/saves/(char name) folder you can redo the level and go from there....
I encountered this in moria, and thought it was a game breaker, but tried doing the above and it worked.

Change zone is sufficient (at least for non-easymode) as it is now - but then save everything. Oh well, since the char would've been broken anyways because I killed Grushnak before I read this thread lets just start over... R.I.P.
PS: deleting the savefiles corresponding zone-savefiles didn't change a thing exept that the zone was denser populated than before... just as a sidenote
Maybe I'm just confused and copied it into the backup folder instead of moving it but I don't think so...
EDIT: I tried again deleting the dungeon saves after updated to the fixed tome version. It seems I actually did mess up.
Lets see if the boss is back too...

if you quit-saved (ctrl-x) after you killed grushnak, then yeah your character is lost, but since you dont have the ring I dont think you would have killed him

Re: [b10] Serious consistency problem after crash
Well, the point is that I did not quitsave (nor save at all, cause then there wouldn't have been a problem) but had a PC crash (went black in a splitsecond - overheating issue) after I killed Grushnak. So yes, the workaround with deleting saves worked and even enabled me obtaining the Orb of Command after updating tome.
