Thrown boulders should be projectiles

#1 Post by Zonk »

As the subject says. They definetely should not be instant, but slow-ish projectiles that can be dodged.

I think they work well as is. It takes a turn to lift, but once you throw a huge rock it is not going to move slowly. If you are playing someone who can dodge projectiles I believe this still holds true. you can twist or duck out of the path of an arrow, but a boulder which may be 8 times your size...

Is it going to move as fast or even faster than an arrow or sling bullet? I don't think so. It's certainly going to be deadlier/have more kinetic energy but if you have space it should be definetely easier to dodge...

I may very well be wrong, but it seems that the boulders thrown are a full 9 tiles large. If that is the case giving them 'shape' could either hurt the talent visually (It would have to be able to partially pass through walls) or functionally (It could not be thrown to locations without a three tile wide LoS)
And again I mention that slipping one step to the side is viable for arrows and bolts but not for something that dwarfs you. Should I be correct about the size of the boulder talents would allow you to step to the side.... and still get smashed by the side of the rock.
Regardless, it seems that there are a few talents where the projectile has no 'corporeal' nature.
Alchemist bombs come to mind at once. Being that both these talents allow you to attack over other creatures, what would happen if it's travel time and your turn coincided while over another creature? As far as I know only treasures can occupy a tile alongside anything else.

Could be cool if the thrown boulder projectile image was simply a 3x3 shadow overlay. Technically you could use some talents to get out of the way, but normally you'd just have a feeling of impending doom.

This shadow overlay is interesting. Imagine a dark shadow and then the next turn a meteor shower. Could open up some interesting visual effects.
