Did the site completely crash?

#1 Post by Crim, The Red Thunder »

Unusual error. Not just the typical 'can't connect to the site'.

Site off-line

The site is currently not available due to technical problems. Please try again later. Thank you for your understanding.

If you are the maintainer of this site, please check your database settings in the settings.php file and ensure that your hosting provider's database server is running. For more help, see the handbook, or contact your hosting provider.

The mysql error was: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2).

Yes, it's down for me as well, also in game chat is down, along with the patch & stats server(s).

Yep. Same error again. Didn't catch it myself this time though.

....Hopefully not offensive to ask, but is this something we should be concerned about as players? As in, did DG have to downgrade the site to poorer servers due to lack of funds, or does he have severe technical difficulties in some other department? Or is this just a normal internet hiccup?

Bahhhh and I that wanted to brag today that I finally killed that Eternal I spawned at level 15 (level 41 now ^^;)

But yeah hopefully the server will back up in a few days (*holding thumbs*)?

P.S. I'm assuming all offline progress gets transfered to the online mode if/when it gets back up ^^?

It *SHOULD*, assuming nothing that breaks validation is done (like activating the cheat/debug mode). However, I don't think character updates are. (Unlock achievement definitely will update, which is the big concern.) Pretty sure if your character dies, there will not be a final update to the site, even when it comes back. Maybe someone more knowledgeable then I can answer that.

I'm pretty sure that it means that newly created characters will never be synced to the vault, though, which is annoying. Also Stone Warden is unusable.

I can definitively confirm that you will be unable to START a stone warden character, or to start a character in exploration mode. Unless I recall incorrectly, you can CONTINUE to play characters in exploration mode or stone wardens that have already BEEN started.
(You will also be unable to create characters using custom tiles, or redheads)

This is because the same servers that do all the character registering, chat, etc, validate your profile logged in as a donator. If you can't log into it because it's down, you will be unable to use your donator features.

As for vault validation, I do not know if characters created now will sync or not. That part I can't offer any insight on.

(Can't contact the database server: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) (localhost))

The web server is present and responding. The database server is not. Presumably, DarkGod just needs to restart MySQL.

Hmm. It's a bit ... all pervasive. Is there at least a mirror of the wiki for whilst the main site is down?
