The world was cold, boring and dark
And then he came, and gave a nod
He coded magic, he lit the spark
A world he created, and became a God.

He created Man, halfling and elf
The power grew within himself
He shares it with us every day
He gives us the game we love to play.

And so we love our god of TOME
and even though he might be a gnome
We prostrate ourselves upon the floor
and ask and pray and beg for more.

Thanks for your work, DarkGod. Please keep updating the game for us. You are the best and we love you!

Would like to add my voice to thanks darkgod for this amazing masterpiece of fun.

I am far from new to roguelikes, being a complete fan of DCSS since a few years, but i have only been playing ToME4 since beta 18, as i never heard about ToME4 before (i thought it was always stuck in ToME3 development).

And despite the bugs and performance problems you have those fantastic gameplay, the ability and leveling system , the whole world background (the change since ToME2 from Middle Earth to Maj'Eyal disturbed me a bit at first, but i started to like it a lot after only a few hours ;) ), all is so incredibly fun and interesting.

Congratulations for this amazing ToME4 , best wishes to the developers and thanks for sharing it with the world.

I just came back after being gone for a few months, and I was very pleasantly surprised tome is still being actively developed. To be honest, I don't know where you guys get the time and energy for this. The devotion of the people working on this is amazing. I also want to say good job! The interface got better, the maps got better, everything got better! Looks like tome 4 still has a lot of potential.

Yeah.. this game is quickly aspiring for a place among my two favorite games of all time: Diablo II and NetHack. I am simply amazed by it. Thanks to all for your efforts on this masterpiece!

Thank you Darkgod for your unrelenting production of a great game. I spend hours upon hours playing your game. I just want to say, I appreciate what you have done for the love of the roguelike. ToME 2.7 was pretty good, too. Cheers and long life.

So, I guess this is a good place for this. It ends well so bear with it:

I came in all "Where the **** is my ToME!!!?"

All upset. Sheesh. Had been playing some ADoM for nostalgia and to kill a bit of time, noticing how badly/slow it was running in DOSBox and quickly remembering how much better ToME was/is. So I went to find the latest version; last I remembered it was under development and a virtually complete overhaul.

And there's no There's no longer a link from There's no more Tales of Middle Earth in Google. Thinking "What the **** is this Tales of the Maj'Eyal **** and where is my beloved ToME?" Please keep in mind, Darkgod, that this whole issue stemmed from my love and admiration for your previous work.

SO, I went digging through the forums, through the announcements, became much more encouraged the moment I saw your moniker on things, and that the same forum system was in place. Finally found the correct post and I really agree with and appreciate your decisions. Your dedication to your continued creative effort and your desire to share it with all of us is delightful. Thank you. I hope to enjoy your new work as much as I've enjoyed how you brought your own flavor of the Tolkien universe to life!

This game is one of my most played games ever if you include the previous versions of ToME before it was called "Tales of Maj'Eyal". It's constantly evolving and always different (except dying, that's constant). It's full of challenge yet not ridiculously stupid-hard like a lot of roguelikes can be (I guess I'm not that good of a player; some people refuse to play this because of it's "casualization". That's silly!).

I hope Darkgod continues to change and add to this game. I love change, even when things get broken sometimes. When I saw this game had chat, stat recording/achievements, streamlined gameplay, better UI, better compatiblity with modern equipment and actual graphics after a few years of not playing, I was like " way! It got better? How?". It still felt like ToME too.

One of the best roguelikes ever (IMO). Hell, one of the best games ever (IMO). I've tried to get into many others, but I always come back to this. Thank you Darkgod for the freebie of the millenium. You deserve all cash/recognition/respect coming your way! 8)

Congratulations to beta 35! :D An enormous amount of changes. I think this is a really significant release that has greatly improved an already fantastic game. That you and all contributors can keep up this pace is amazing!

This seems as good a place as any to post :)

To do all this work and give it away freely is saintly, but to continue giving of yourself even after a long life of giving is a sign of an unbreakable good-guy spirit :) and today DarkGod showed me that there are still decent folks out there in the world..

Makes me wonder if he shouldnt switch to LightGod :)

This is an amazing amazing amazing game, and I see its a "like father like son" kind of thing :P

May happiness and luck and health always find you, and your family :)

Where to begin...

I found ToME4 because I was interested in coding games, but had zero graphics experience and thought going to a niche that didn't scoff at ASCII characters was a good idea. Thanks a lot Shockbolt. :D In all seriousness, the ToME4 community and especially DarkGod have been fantastic helping me hone my game coding skills, and if you haven't hung out in the IRC channel with DarkGod you really don't know how awesome and nice he is. A hearty, "here here!" and a toast to a potential Roguelike of the Year hat trick.
