Umm...I just found the One lying in a greater vault in Angband. I didn't notice it in the list before the level (yay for precog!) the first time, but I checked again, and it was there. ID'ed it, and sure enough: 'The Ring of Power "The One Ring"...You found it lying in a vault on level 93 of Angband.' So yeah . There's gotta be something seriously screwed up going on here.

yeah, it can be generated in vaults, but it is rare (see how yottle did the low kill competition, he ended up scumming vaults for either sauron or the ring, but yeah, it doesnt mention this on the wiki I dont think, and I didnt learn of this till this year myself.

just think that the ring abandoned its previous owner and you happened to find it next.

I went ahead and dumped it at Mount Doom (time to kill Sauron; I just love it when he shows up on the same level ). That's kinda weird how it can be generated normally, but somewhat plausible story-wise, I suppose. I just wasn't expecting it.

I've only found it three times, in a vault running from greater demons, in the father of all dragons at the bottom of Erebor (forgot how to spell his name), and the undead sorceror guy.

On a lark I decided to wield Grond with a Sorcerer, and somehow I'm walking around killing mature dragons with it. It gained 5 levels in one kill. This is very weird, as my hitroll is a fairly large negative number (sixtyish).

Grond is just that powerful. Last time I tried it (debug character ) I was killing Great Wyrms in one turn.

The One is fairly common in vaults below level 99. The problem, of course, is to get below level 99. In Theme, where the Angband dungeon is split at 99, this is really easy.
