Regarding the forums... my view is that it should simply be:
  • Tome3
    • General (no spoilers!)
    • Spoilers
    • Development
  • Tome2
    • General (no spoilers!)
    • Spoilers
(and the same structure as Tome3 for the TomeNET forum.)

I don't see any need for separate development forums for modules/engine/etc. If it turns out there's too much traffic (unlikely to say the least) they can always be split later.

I think that at least 2.3.6 should be released, since 2.3.5 have several ugly bugs. I have been working on fixing 2.x bugs recently.

But I don't think there's need for two Tome2 and 3 development forums, just one is good.

Bugs: Bugs in a forum are very hard to track. There are lazy coders who won't ever see what bugs had been reported there, there are no searching tools in the forums so there will be lots of duplicated or invalid bugs. Same goes for the Wiki.

Our bug reporting tool is very simple to use, for a bug tracker. Use it.

for the spoilers forums you should probably list it as something like:

Gameplay (Spoilers!)

-Preserve our wildlife and pickle a squirrel today.

So... anyone up for actually releasing 2.3.6 and is anyone actually going to reorganize the forum?

(I'd be happy to do the 2.3.6 release, assuming it's just a question of producing a tarballs, but I don't have access to any of the official places...)

I just read that I was demoted due to lack of activity. I actually have been lurking here, but it's been so quiet lately and I didn't have anything very insightful to say... There hasn't even been spam on the forums.

I'll reinstate you to the rank of Reaper, Nerdanel. I made an all-hands call in the Staff forum, and those that answered were automatically promoted. Sorry for the misunderstanding there.

The problem with Staff Discussion is that it's so far down the page it's easy to overlook.

EDIT - Oh, and by the way, I was never a Reaper, only a moderator, so this is a promotion then.

Yeah, I decided to upgrade all mods to Reapers since I didn't want to fiddle with the forum permissions every time I made a change. Just easier this way.

No problems... I'm thinking about relocating that forum anyway...

I think Xandor has access to the server? It seems to be the same server than the forum.

Also, is there any release-blocking major bug for ToME 2.3.6? I think it's in good shape and it can be released soon.

I do have ftp access to the forum's server, but I have no idea how to use it. I need to perform a software update to make sure the issue we had doesn't occur again, but I have no idea how.

The usual procedure is to download the latest PHPBB[1] and unpack it somewhere in your computer, then use a FTP client such as FileZilla[2] and replace the files in the appropiate folder with the ones in the machine. What folder depends entirely in the server setup, but I guess it should be something like 'forum'.

1. http://www.phpbb.com/
2. http://filezilla-project.org/

Hmm I just saw that PHPBB2 is currently unmaintained, and I guess the upgrade could be to PHPBB3 and the upgrade might not be so simple...

That could prove difficult, then... I'm not too up on ftp usage. Message me sometime and maybe you can walk me through it.

What I miss, a bit, on this forum, is a subsection dedicated to gameplay questions.

I am a frequent visitor of the Bay12games forum (about Dwarf Fortress, a brilliant roguelike RTS sandbox game) at http://www.bay12games.com. I like the layout of their forum. You might want to have a look at it.
Their forum is subdivided in:

-Announcements (used by the game developer(s) to announce new development plans/releases/interviews
-Bug reports
-Suggestions (player input on how to expand/improve the game)
-Gameplay questions
-Dwarf mode discussion (Dwarf fortress knows 2 distinct game modes. For the tome forum this could translate to 2.x.x)
-Adventure mode dicussion (following abovesaid logic: 3.x.x)
-(insert one extra subsection for Tomenet here)
-Community games and stories (for all those people writing nice fanfiction)
-Modding
-General discussion (everything else about the game that does not fit into other categories)
-----------------
-Other games
-Various Nonsense
-etc

On bay12 forum, we don't use a 'spoiler' subsection. Instead, people use spoiler tags, or mention spoiler in the thread title.
Apart from that, I am happy to have joined the Tome forum. It is a game I have played for a long time already, and it is good to see that there is some activity on this forum.

I've been a part of this forum almost since it was created, but I don't recall there being a section dedicated specifically to gameplay. Stuff like that used to be split between General Discusssion, Strategies and Spoilers, depending on the subject matter. We took out Strategies due to the topics turning spoily most of the time.
And it was such a good idea...
