Introduction : Hello! I'm ox739, a bit of a loner gamer that runs numbers and finds program features, limits, etc in his spare time. Consider this, for ease of terms, akin to card counting. There was an interesting question poised in game about projectiles, and I decided that I have a partial answer. Equally decided that I did not wish to wade through an easy chat system where people could readily shout out whatever answer they felt was correct at the time without any baseline, thought, or knowledge. Combined that with my limited knowledge of how to actually make a wiki page and my personal promise of "30 minutes", I came to the conclusion that the best option was the forums here. Also, this will not be formatted into paragraphs. Tempted to remove the capital letters, spacing and punctuation altogether. I'll get started now, and will definitely hide this in a "tl:dr" box later.
Pre-requisites : https://te4.org/wiki/Speed . The link at the top of the page brings you to the forum post that the person copy/pasted for that wiki page. As I will be using this as a base point for much of the explanation, you'll either read it or feel like you've pressed See The Threads with 0 sight and senses. As that is borderline spoiler, just read the **** post. Oh look, another thing to have a "tl"dr" box.
[what will be a giant] block of text containing the information
Projectiles follow a set path based on their destination. As I've been dealing with primarily spellpower-oriented classes with instant travel times, a more exact math will be forthcoming once I get into Archer and other branches of magic. Out of all of the projectiles that have been thrown at me, at least 90% follow the same path as the most basic of Wind spells, Lightning. To view the potential trajectory, stretch it across the entire screen. Sure, it only goes up to 10 range, but the actual stretching of the spell displays the potential squares that other projectiles travel through. Now, combine this with various things that slow projectile speeds and speed up the character, and there's a general formula to be had. (ugh, 3 minutes til 30 as promised). [with 3 minutes left, I'll just leave a list of stuff that I'm doing for testing in the next area and call it]
Pending for test :
Character size's effect
Potential percentage of projectile hitting box
Actual timing of the projectile reaching box and hitting (Lightning is instant and hits all boxes it travels through)
Exact turns it takes to move multiple tiles diagonally with 1 skill(Looking at Disengage and Shoot)
oh look, I'm out of time.
I'll edit this post at an undetermined later date or, if not applicable, move it to the wiki once it's completely finished.
