How to update the game manually?

#1 Post by dTerm »

Hi there,

I purchased your nice game on GOG yesterday, including all the fluff. 8) It's version 1.7.0 and after installing I tried to update to 1.7.2 manually, via copying the files from the free release from your website. That probably wasn't a great idea in the first place, since it resulted in the possessor bonus class being permanently disabled, and presumably in carnage elsewhere. I am online through the wireless LAN of my neighbour, who is running a business, and hence has his firewall and stuff tightly secure, which is probably the reason why I fail to have the game auto-update on it's own. I don't know, whether GOG Galaxy is better suited as a workaround, but it's, what I want to avoid relying on. Is there some other way to do a upgrade :?:

Cheers

Thanks:)

As for your problem, I'm not sure I understand; why can't you just download version 1.7.2 from GOG as you did for 1.7.0 ?
[tome] joylove: You can't just release an expansion like one would release a Kraken XD

FWIW, I count on GOG's individual game installers and not Galaxy and don't play online much. But it's good to know that the versions on te4 and GOG don't mix. I haven't tried grabbing one from te4 but I had expected it to work if I did, since I have te4 acct, GOG serials, and have donated. Too bad that doesn't work. Seems like if you bought it you bought it :)

Slough,

I got the game ugrade going so far, by downloading the free game (1.7.2), logging in on te4.org and manually downloading the DLCs. Then I copied the files into the addons folder and logged in from inside the game and synced everything. When online all modules are working, when offline the possessor bonus class module gets disabled. For reasons beyond my knowledge, the target version of the addons is still 1.7.0, I assume they are hardcoded to the gog release via the keys. So I guess that's not a valid way to update the game and possibly corrupts things. That's quite annoying and spoils the fun of the otherwise nice game.

Hi darkgod,

I totally overlooked your reply, since Slough's message came afterwards. Sorry for that!
I can't download version 1.7.2 from gog.com, because they still offer version 1.7.0 only, both for Windows and Linux.

Unfortunately the game fails to update at startup, haven't figured out why yet. The game is able to connect to profiles.t4.org though.

The normal launcher should still be in the game's folder. "t-engine-launcher.exe" on Windows, and something unto that on Linux. Running the game from that directly SHOULD patch it up with no issue. And yes, GOG seems to be really slow offering patches to smaller titles for some reason I can't understand. Past ToME updates have taken days to show up on GOG for me. Thankfully, if you create a te4 account and register the game and expansion keys GOG gives you through that, you can just download the game off te4.org and it will let you download all the expansions you've registered keys for once you log in at the title menu. That's basically what I do at this point, though still planning to buy the next expansion (patiently waiting) through GOG and just redeem the key in the same manner.

Unfortunatey, the automatic update doesn't work on my Linux box. Hence I am reliant on the GOG files. They took about 10 days for the fresh downloads, which I think is not great, but not too bad eather, for a smaller title. But I don't know, whether it only happened due to darkgod's request maybe.

And as for the game launcher, such a thingy exists neither in the free version, nor in the GOG one.

Doing the update manually worked more ore less, as I wrote in the other thread.
