1.6.7 various bugs with mouse movement

#1 Post by Pyros »

So I figured I should make a post about the few issues I've ran into using mouse movement. For the most part it works just fine but there's some weirdness to it that might just be issues with the engine that can't be resolved easily. I can make videos if needed to illustrate the bugs.

The first and most common issues is the "high speed movement" bug. Happens if you have high speed, the most common one being movement infusion but it does the same for any similar effect(although it seems to only affect higher movement speed, not like +25% movespeed boots). Basically what happens is if you spam movement orders with the mouse when you have such an effect, at some point the game stops taking inputs from the mouse at all. It looks like it's frozen, but it isn't, and if you use the keyboard you can resume moving(well first input does nothing, but second works fine). It'll also fixes itself if you alt tab and come back into the game. I cannot 100% say exactly what triggers it, just that it basically happens everytime I use a movement infusion to run away if I quickly click places to move to turn by turn(to prevent running into something else if they phase door or whatever). I'm thinking perhaps the position of my character is desynced so it won't let me move anymore and that's why alt tabbing fixes it?

The second issue is the "rocket boots" issue. This one bothered me for a long time before I figured out exactly what causes it. It's actually the same issue as another bug I'll mention after. If you use rocket boots, then use mouse movement out of combat(in combat, or at least when enemies are visible it mostly works fine, besides the previous bug that locks movement), if you click 2tiles away from your character, the rocket boots will turn off without going on cooldown. This is super annoying when you turn a corner while fleeing, and suddenly you take 2 steps without rocket boots active and the enemy catches up to you. If you simply click on adjacent tiles, it seems to work fine.

A similar issue is with the boots of quick moving, the ones that move you 3 tiles forward. If you click 2tiles away, you'll move twice and only that distance with a mouse. If you click an adjacent tile, you'll move the correct 3 tiles in one move. I think mouse pathing basically somewhat overrides normal movement when clicking further away which prevents these boots effect from working and also messes up with rocket boots "sustain".
