Corruptor Queries

#1 Post by Ravensclaw »

Does Corruptor benefit from Staff Mastery?

Regarding Curses

Curse of Defenselessness and Curse of Vulnerability, isn't it optimal to learn and max both of these, cast them both, then unleash hell? Also Curse of Defenselessness does not allow a save. Is it the same for Curse of Vulnerability? If not, then doesn't it make added sense to learn Curse of Defenselessness to lower the saves?

Also for both of these curses, in what way do they adversely affect the target from Corruptor attacks e.g. Bone Spear, Drain, Blood Spray etc?

Staff Mastery only benefits you if you're physically whacking things with your staff, or using the Channel Staff skill, neither of which a Corruptor should be doing, ever.

You've got the right idea with the Curses. Curse of Defenselessness cannot be saved against, so you cast that first, which then lowers the enemy's Defense and saves - meaning whatever else you follow up with is much more likely to stick. Defenselessness is the only Curse that cannot be saved against and is used almost exclusively for setting up other talents that DO allow a save, whether that be other curses to further debuff the enemy or more of your class kit.

As for what good they do you:

Defenselessness - strips Defense and saves, and allows your other effects to stick on the enemy (by making them fail their saves).
Impotence - flat % reduction to all damage the target deals. Self-explanatory.
Death - prevents regen, and deals damage. The preventing regen part is vastly more valuable than the damage, especially so when you're faced up against a rare/randboss/unique with Vitality - but that said, the damage is nothing to scoff at.
Vulnerability - decreases resistances, effectively makes the enemy take more damage from all sources.

So Impotence is purely a defensive tool, and Death is situational. Defenselessness and Vulnerability are going to be your heavy hitters. Any skill you have that applies a secondary effect - say, Virulent Disease, because it's a good example that you'll definitely have - that secondary effect rolls your Spellpower vs. the enemy's Spell Save. If you have high Spellpower - which you should - and your enemy has low Spell Save - which you just ensured by casting CODef - then they'll fail that save and be afflicted with the effect, in this case disease. Vulnerability will ensure they take maximum possible damage from whatever you hit them with. Both of these curses will of course also count as magical detrimental effects for the purposes of Bone Spear/Spike.
Let slip the toast of war.

On question I forgot, what escort rewards (or betrayals) work best with Corruptor?

Obviously if you get a defiler escort, you can save generic points by getting curses. Other notable rewards are track from thief, chant of fortitude from sun paladin, and premonition from seer. Other than that, you can just pick up magic. If you want to take a category from one of the escorts, chants or tinkers would be the best options.
Edit: as a corrupter, you can't betray an escort because you are an arcane class.

As a Corruptor (seemingly) does not channel energy thru a staff (- correct me if I am wrong), are there other weapons that a Corruptor can exploit to dish the damage and blight related bonuses?

The Worm that Walks "Nemisis", what are the best Corruptor strategies, and are there any The Worm that Walk Bosses I need to worry about?

I don't understand this statement at all.

All magic users generally wield a Staff because it gives increased Spellpower, Spell Crit and a tuneable damage bonus. Corruptor is not an exception here.

Judging from the initial post, I'm semi wondering if you understand what Staff Mastery actually does.
