Stuck in The GodFeaster

This happened to me the other day. The Godfeaster is not the Demented starting zone, but comes later. The Rod of Recall is disabled. I killed the boss, then explored for overlooked loot and the portal disappeared (or was never there, I'm no longer sure). The same thing just happened to me after killing Draebor the Imp after being sent there by Tannen on another character.
