[1.6 beta] Cosmetic options from addons?

With the upcoming 1.6 release and its greatly expanded handling of cosmetic options, is there an official mechanism, like a hook, that addons should use to add cosmetic options? Because Golem Gender plays around in that bailiwick, and it currently operates by doing meatball surgery on the Alchemist birth descriptor from the ToME:load hook, which seems suboptimal.
