Autosquelch "apply_rules ran too often"

#1 Post by Sirioh »

I'm having a bit of trouble with the autosquelch.

It runs without a problem when deleting items on the ground that match the conditions, but if I pick up something, or otherwise take an action (toggle praying, ID'ing, etc) while there's an item in my inventory that meets the conditions, it fails with the message above.

I've been playing with the squelcher working fine for the last ~30 levels, but I'm not entirely sure what I've added or changed in the most recent session that would cause it to break. It was generally set up to destroy anything of terrible->good equipment/weapons. I think it started when I attempted to add auto-delete for <good scrolls/potions, but it must be more than just that because it haven't been able to get it to work again afterward.

(Tome2 THEME module. Not sure what version of theme but I think the tome2 version is either 2.3.10 or 2.4.)

Any suggestions?

Edit: I managed a slight workaround by not having rules for "average" potions and scrolls, but it's still not clear to me why this causes problems.

I would try removing your automat.atm file from /lib/user and see if that clears up the issue.

If so, then there must be something funky in one of the rules. You can edit it outside the game (it is just a text file) and look to see if there is something obviously wrong or just recreate it from scratch.

If not, there is something wrong with your game files. The simplest thing to do would be to download a clean version. You can then copy your saved games, automat.atm, and .prf files over, but check to make sure that they don't break the game again.
