Help me explain staff acc. bonus better

#1 Post by e1337ist »

I know what it is and how it works, but whenever I try explaining it to someone, they get this long-winded lecture on procs and weapon attacks and it seems like I confuse them more than I am being helpful. I like being helpful! Is there a concise and preferably short way to get the idea across?

bonus to an attribute multiplied by the positive flat difference between your accuracy and targets defense.

the bigger your accuracy advantage the greater the bonus.

proc bonus being a bit... special, but that's because there is no "proc" stat.

I guess you could go for a simple "procs are stuff like '+5 fire damage (melee)', so having more accuracy over your opponents defense will cause that damage to increase." But it's hard to simplify something like procs... Especially considering how many forms they come in.

Or you could just give them a link that leads to a forum post that explains it non-concisely.

Any extra damage applied at the same time as the base weapon damage is increased.
My feedback meter decays into coding. Give me feedback and I make mods.

Is this why Earthen Missiles do not proc? Because it is not "at the same time" but a projection?

Yes.

Essentially (warning, this explanation will be better understood by coders), the staff bonus is applied as soon as your weapon hits the target on the form of a damage buff. Then the game applies your procs, then it removes the buff and then the rest of the game turn can continue.

So, why does projectiles like Earthen Missile aren't affected? Because in Tome, all damage/elemental damage modifiers are only checked when the attack lands and aren't baked into your projectiles. So if the proc creates a projectile, the buff will be removed before it lands because the later will still be in flight until the attack is completely resolved.

Supposedly, if a weapon proc could include another weapon attack, the staff bonus would be doubled on the second set of procs.

Pulverise though does get staff bonus. It looks like a projectile but clearly lands at the same time.

That's just animation looks. Pulverizing Augur is a beam. The talent description itself says twice it is one :D

There's that one artifact axe-skullcleaver, I believe, that has a chance of triggering whatchamacallit...weapon focus? It isn't a staff, obviously, would that count as a proc?
