Reputation system

#1 Post by Bc1151 »

I am new to tome, and a lot of people in the chat have been REALLY helpful - and I thought it would be nice to repay them somehow.

So, I thought of a system that could allow for players to offer thanks of sorts to other players.

In the chat ui, you could right click on a player name and click "Reputation +" or "Reputation -"

The total count of reputation would be shown on their public profile, and possible beside their name - perhaps offer ranks or something for different milestones of reputation.

The way of preventing people from abusing this system, would be that you could only offer a single reputation (+/-) once per 24 hours, resetting at midnight, and you could not change the reputation of a single individual more than once a month. This way, if somebody is being vindictive, they could not seriously alter the reputation of a player.

Perhaps donators could give out 2 reputation a day.

What do you think?

Mm, I don't know that Reddit (and other up/downvote websites) is the best comparison. Since the votes here would be tied to an account, and not a particular message, you don't have quite the same feedback cycle (where a top response gets seen first, so it gets upvoted first, or a stock response gets seen as "good" or meme-y and so gets upvoted automatically). Likewise, if you can't give out reputation whenever you want, people should be less inclined to vote for or against everything they see.

That's not to say people might not get big heads about their reputation, mind you.

I'm trying to think of some direct analogs, but I'm just coming up with the reputation/renown systems from MMOs. League of Legends might have a similar system? But both of those revolve around playing with people, versus interacting with them purely in chat.

League has a vaguely similar honor system. The system sounds nice... But there isn't really a point. Imo, it would actually make more sense on the forums.
A little bit of a starters guide written by yours truly here.
