Connecting to my Steam-created account without Steam?

#1 Post by weregamer »

This may seem a little backwards, but I want to set up a standalone installation of ToME on my work machine to play during long compile/test runs. I really don't want to install the Steam client on this machine.

Trying to use my Steam credentials in the standalone client doesn't work. Trying to set up a standalone account barfs at the duplicate email.

If I use an alternate email to create an account, will I be able to link that to my Steam account?

This would actually be helpful for me too, in trying to debug my perennial problems uploading addons to Steam.

You should be logging in with your te4.org account, not your steam account.

Status update.

I tried this, and had some moments of alarm but it seems to be working.

When I first connected the two accounts, the immediate result was the link from my Steam to the Steam-created account went away. I was a bit panicked that I'd lost all my unlocks (even including Stone Warden).

But when I logged in from home, all the achievements and unlocks got updated, so I'm actually in pretty much exactly the state I expected.

Note that my save games are completely separate on the two machines, of course - without the Steam client there is no cloud sync of the save files in either direction. But the unlocks are there, so I can start a "casual" game to play while waiting for compiles at work, and keep my intense play for when I'm concentrating on it at home.
