Hey guys,
I really fell in love with ToME a few days ago when i noticed it on steam. At first I only played Roguelike because I do enjoy the feel of this particular gamemode. Though, after many and many deaths, going until Dreadfell's boss at maximum, I had the impression to hit a solid wall and took the decision of going adventurer. In this gamemode, i did manage to get to the far east, but was proven unable to get to any orc dungeon (I was basically one shotted by any door guards there.
So, I watched some let's play videos and I noticed that people who are able to succeed really know A LOT about this game, and I do not, sadly.
So I was wondering if there was a thread, video, ressource anywhere where you can get detailled information about how the game works (like what loots have a chance to spawn into a specific level, how does stats adds together - for attack speed for instance, what is the calculation implied - etc. Basically, any useful information about the game mechanics). I have the feeling I got some knowledge about a little portion of it by just playing, but I do not understand many things still. For instance, I don't get why I sometimes get tier 2+ items in tier 1 dungeons, etc.
I would love someone to redirect me to useful ressources if those ones do exist !
(And also, I'm sorry for my terrible english, I'm from the land where they eat frogs)
Is it possible to get a lot of informations about the game ?

Re: Is it possible to get a lot of informations about the ga
Hi, i just started the game some months ago too.
i would advise u just play normal/adventure, and maybe stick to a good guide from the spoilers section for ur first playthrough.
the temporal warden guide is outstanding close to perfect imo, the wyrmic guide is pretty good too. those classes arent that hard to unlock either and are fun to play. (others might be good too but thats some i can tell theyre good because i played em as a noob)
information is indeed hard to collect, mainly from the forum i would say. i think on the steam forums theres a basic guide collection too which is usable.
while playing, read the discussions in chat. ask ur questions there or in the dumb questions/spoiler forum.
the item drops are somewhat random, but information on this can be found in the wiki:
http://te4.org/wiki/Zones
http://te4.org/wiki/Artifacts
this topic helped me when i was in the east and didnt really know what to do now, combined with the zones wiki:
http://forums.te4.org/viewtopic.php?f=41&t=38252
also google (info)+tome links u to interesting forum topics, some are very old and hidden but still useful

Play the game.
Play the tutorials.
Try different things.
Read everything in the game.

Ask whatever you want over in the Dumb Questions forum. It's what it's there for.
To answer your question about loot spawning: Yes, the tier 1 dungeons can drop tier 2 loot. There are actually five tiers of items, where the tier indicates what it's made of (for instance, the metal tiers are iron, steel, dwarven-steel, stralite, and voratun, respectively) and has a significant impact on its power. "Tiers" of dungeons, however, aren't meant to match up with item tiers; that's just a term the community uses to make it easier to group dungeons together.
Incidentally, almost every zone can drop two tiers of items; for instance, the starter ("tier 1") dungeons can yield tier 1 and 2 equipment, while the orc prides have tier 4 and 5.

Re: Is it possible to get a lot of informations about the ga
Thank you all for your answers and the informations provided, that was very helpfull.
Something I still do not understand though, is that, for example with this character : http://te4.org/characters/103743/tome/2 ... f8b01a2ca6 who died in Dreadfell, i was able to find (before Dreadfell, in some tier 2 dungeon) a tier 5 cloak (equiped on my character sheet). And according to you, I should not have found this particular item, because Dungeons giving tier 5 items are lategame ones I assume ?
So, is there a special treatment regarding item spawning in vaults or chests ? Can you find virtually any item in those ?

There are certain events that ignore material level restrictions. The most common are the glowing chests: 10% of them contain randarts that can be of any material level.
