Game update

#1 Post by spidernetlabs »

Hi,
I'm kinda new to this game, so do not get angry at me :D
I have the 1.0.5 version of ToME (Linux32) and I noticed there's an update, when I launch the executable (t-engine) it should download it, but nothing happens. I also tried to download the new version, extract it in another directory and run it, but it doesn't recognize my character.
Thanks in advance and have a nice day.

You're one us lucky ones I guess. Dunno if with Linux it won't download the new version; I've yet to launch the game myself.

By lucky I meant you can continue the game with your old character with your old executable in 105. The 106 saves are not likely compatible.

Whenever you're ready for another char use the 106 and delete the old game folder.

Only the windows version has the downloader/patcher.

If you want the new version to recognise your character, you need to click the 'show incompatible characters' button on the load game screen.
The character might work, it might not.

@HousePet @Mayfair: thanks for your answers.
The character do not work by the way, I do not know if this is intended or not. However I'm going to stick with the 1.0.5 version for now. :|
Have a nice day.

Everytime DG makes an update, it changes certain values in the game. These values may or may not have an effect on characters that are currently being run. It's not something that's intentional, it's just a part of how the normal game-play process runs.

I highly recommend upgrading to 1.1.0 when you get sick of your current character or he dies a glorious (or shameful) death. Each new release usually comes with some new content and loads of bug fixes.
And it was such a good idea...

Thanks. One more question: I'm considering buying the steam version, my only doubts are:
- Will my characters carry over my other PCs?
- If the game receives an update through steam will it broke my previous character(s)?

If you've already donated, you can link your account to Steam at no charge since you've already given money. If you haven't, go ahead and buy.

I linked my account to Steam last night and all my unlocks carried over. I didn't have any active characters at the time, so I don't know for sure if they do. I'm almost positive that they do, though. Your addons don't, so make sure to grab them in the workshop. You can manually push addons in the same way that you did with the base game.

Since Steam automatically applies updates to games, there's still that chance that an update will render your character unplayable. There's also just as much of a chance that you'll be just fine. Really depends on several factors beyond our control.

My recommendation is to buy the game on Steam. It's much easier to manage and it goes to support a great developer.
And it was such a good idea...
