Irregular Item powering

#1 Post by Sianist »

something i noticed while playing my Oozemancer

the ego 'mules' for rings and the ego 'of carrying' for belts do the same thing (lower fatigue, raises max encumbrance) ... yet for rings its "Crafted by a Master" while belts are "powered by Arcane Forces"

I honestly fail to see what's wrong with the same effect being achieved by different means, especially since usage of one of such egos is limited, increasing the value of other, rather mundane for rings.

...Although arguably, the two should be swapped. I can understand how a master could make a belt such that its wearer could carry things more easily. See weightlifting belts in reality. However, I don't see how a ring could feasibly enhance someone's carrying weight without some form of post-normal influence (be that magic, nature-enhancement, psionic forces...)

That said, masters have crafted a lot of things in the ToME universe that manage to do some pretty impressive things (Feathersteel Amulet, for one...) so I suppose the above sort of logic just doesn't apply.
