Antimagic- magical alternate escorts

#1 Post by aristalis »

I don't like being forced to betray and kill someone or help them if my abilities are really different from theirs. :|. If anti/non-magical against magic and vice versa could choose to reveal themselves to their escorts, making them neutral and they'd start off by saying, "I guess I have no choice." so if they accidentally (or on purpose) get hit they become hostile. Instead of asking them to wait, I'd try to calm them down, which does nothing if they're neutral but makes them neutral again if they're not, and the first time they could say, "I guess there's no point in us fighting if everything's trying to kill us.", but after that it could just be a game message saying, "They're too angry to calm down." . If they survive they could say 'I can't believe we made it' And give any stat(summoners can actually use magic for blighted summoning, and other classes have corner cases too) or a generic point.

Can't you just not betray them, and take them to the portal, and just get a stat bonus?

Seems...not that different from what you're suggesting overall.

Maybe they need more AM friendly bonuses for stats in that case? I guess that'd be nice...

You're only forced to betray them if you swear loyalty to the fanatical mage-killing secret society. Anyone else can just escort them as normal.

But now it's also people who are born with a special connection to nature that have to betray/ignore magic types. Before when it was true that you had to be a zealot I didn't really care, but that's part of why I'm working on this, the other part being that some characters have really great generic sinks and they can't get all of them, so I'm trying to find a way to give those for completing these.

IIRC, you only have to betray if you have the forbid_arcane flag. IE, you did the zigur side class or are an oozemancer. Unless something changed in 1.04 here other wilders can get stuff from arcane escorts just fine. So either you're a class that has screw you arcane users in its intro text or you are an anti-magic fanatic by choice.

Anyone who does not know any spells can betray arcane escorts. Only Oozemancers and the Ziguranth must betray them. If you have no spells but haven't joined the Ziguranth, you can choose to either rescue or betray any arcanists you find.
