Does Fungal Growth trigger Ancestral Life?

#1 Post by Stome »

Simple little question here. does the rgen effect from fungal growth trigger the +% of a turn from Ancestral Life?

Yep. Anything that gives you the "Regeneration" effect (that little leaf icon) triggers Ancestral Life

Well if that is the case it seems to me that Swallow (I think that is the name. The first sand drake ability.) Is vastly undervalued at least from I have seen on the forums here.

Large single target damage, Heal and Equilibrium reduction. Then more Eq reductions, regen, and +% of a turn through the fungus tree. I am having a hard time understanding why people don't rate this as pure gold.

The regeneration from Swallow isn't that good. Seriously, my regen-focused Wyrmic winner was topping 300 HP/turn with his regen infusion; Swallow's heal never comes close to that. Meanwhile, you only get one regen effect at a time: If your infusion is still running, then Swallow won't add its own regeneration effect, and therefore won't trigger Ancestral Life.

That's not to say I didn't find Swallow handy: Regular consumption of enemies is a decent way to keep your equilibrium under control. It's just that I've never used it for the Fungal Growth regeneration effect. Once you max out Wild Growth, your infusions give you eleven turns of regeneration; you'll rarely be able to trigger Fungal Growth off Swallow's heal.

With a proper setup (or just a situation), this combo could be used to get swallows at nearly instant speed.
Now, do things like "drain life" effect from spellblaze shard count as a heal for the purposes of Fungal Growth? Damage affinity? That could be cheesed hard, if tediously.

You know, a while back, somebody managed to get an infinite speed build going that exploited Fungal Growth in just that manner. Fungal Growth was promptly nerfed; it now only works for "major" heals. In general, most small heals that you can get multiple times per turn (such as the Bloodcaller's life leech and, yes, damage affinity and drain life) won't trigger it; activated talents and other heals that either have a cooldown or can only trigger every few turns are the only ones that count.

EDIT: That being said, yes, you can eventually get an instant-use Swallow. Assuming that you don't have regeneration running when the enemy's health is right at that critical point, and the attack hits, and the enemy doesn't resist. It's pretty situational. And all that for an attack that really isn't all that impressive. It's nature damage: You don't get bonuses from Chromatic Fury, and your only other nature-damage talent is Venomous Breath.

You guys know you can rightclick a buff to dismiss it right? You can cancel your current regen Swallow, cancel that puny regen and activate a real one all without taking an action. And the swallow can't be resisted if its lethal damage. Swallow whole is a one point wonder.

And hey - it's a one-point-wonder that you were going to get as an unlock anyway, because what kind of wyrmic *doesn't* pick up Burrow or Sand Breath?
