Giving up on TOME for now

#1 Post by prsmith »

Hello all,

I have become totally frustrated .

I can not get TOME to run in Windows Vista 32 (see http://forums.te4.org/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=33722). In 40 the opening screen does not conform to the monitor size and the loading process just shuts down. It is less bad in 35 and version 30 works great (because the opening screen had not been introduced yet). I have reverted to the original drivers to no avail. Is there a way to boot the game without the opening scene (female fighter) and background activity?

I also have had no luck in Ubuntu (see http://forums.te4.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=33754). I still can not get the client to run in Ubuntu 12.04

So, as much as I want to play this great game, I will take a rest from it - maybe someone will sort out teh problems in due course.

Thnaks,
Preston

I am updating the SDL version, which if it worked fine in b30 is likely the problem.

Are you ok if I send you an updated exe in some days for test ? It *might* work :)

Hi DG,

Yes please - I will do whatever I can to help you.

By the way, what does SDL mean? I have been in computers since the mid-60s but I am very ignorant of recent technology - but as an electrical engineer and a former large scale quality control guy I should be able to help.

Thank you very much for your help

I think you can turn off the initial background exploration by putting the line

Code: Select all

boot_menu_background = true
inside boot_menu_background.cfg in the settings directory. But if it's not running (rather than just very slow), this is unlikely to help.

SDL is the graphics library used by TOME to do all the display. The game currently uses its own version, which is not the most recent; DarkGod is hoping that a more recent version will fix whatever bug you are hitting.

Thank you Calabria,

That setting is already true in my *.cfg trial.

Maybe the updated SDL he is planning to trial with me will make a difference.

Ok, try that please:

- Download: http://te4.org/dl/tmp/testsdl2.zip
- Remove all the .dll and .exe files from your b40 install
- Place those from the zip instead
- Try to run the game

Thanks!

PS: People that have or have not problems are also welcome to test

Thank you DarkGod,

The new files work great - load very, very fast - just a couple of seconds compared to previous files that would take 2 or 3 minutes to boot the game. Great progress with this issue

BUT there is still a problem. Take a look at this attached screen shot of my 1680x1050 resolution flat screen LCD working under Vista 32 - image far exceeds the size of my screen

Hope this helps,

Thanks again

Ah good, progress!

Ok try to remove the file in c:/users/foobar/t-engine/4.0/settings/resolution.cfg and try again, it should detect it

Tried that - there is no difference - the boot screen (shown while loading) is "correct" but the main menu page shows up as it did before - way oversized

Hi DarkGod,

I knew I had seen this problem before

This solved the problem (as it did last year). Sorry that my memory is not as good as it used to be

Thanks and keep up the good work,

Mais qui!!!

Absolutely great - maybe that file should be incorporated in the zip file

Thanks for your support and hard work
