Disenchanting items

#1 Post by Zonk »

I think most of us will agree that it's pretty annoying when you find loads and loads of magical stralite/voratun jewelry/weapons/armor, but need a plain version to imbue.

It also doesn't make too much sense to me - unless the game world is *EXTREMELY* high magic, there should be some non magical stuff around.

So here's two ways this could be changed:

1)NPCs can disenchant non-artifact stuff for a cost. Shouldn't be too high - you're getting enchantments removed after all, and it's all or nothing, not just the bad stuff. Hell, maybe they actually GAIN something from disenchanting(dunno, magical essence?)

This would be done by the ring-imbuer in Angolwen, Limmir...dunno who'd do that for weapons and armour.
(Weapons aren't that big of an issue as I think only the Crystal Focus can imbue one)

2)Trying to imbue a non-plain version turns the item plain first, at no cost. There *IS* however a warning/popup to avoid painful mistakes.

(Code-wise, I think disenchanting is fairly viable, with some caveats: extra care must be taken with armours which have a wearer field even when plain, so we can't just delete it.
Also, would have to remove the ego's name and color of course.)

I also had a mildly related thought which we may want to keep in mind for the future: what about a talent/effect that let you disenchant an object AND regain some resources(based on the item power source/general power level), and maybe a buff? Could be interesting.

There is a precedent now for talents consuming equipment, with the Cursed talent that uses up a weapon.

It'd be cool if this ability gave you a temporary buff equivalent to the item's egos (so disenchant it, and then the difference between the two is the buff you receive).

Sorta. I wanted it to be based on the item ego...but *lesser*, since you're benefitting from it without taking up an equiment slot.
You could disenchant something, keep the buff and then equip something slot.
Could just halve the benefits, and also not allow to have a buff from disenchanting more than one item at once.
