Item display in hotkeys

#1 Post by budswell »

When you assign a "use" item to a hotkey it would be more friendly if the hotkey display showed the ability and amount of charges/power the item had.

For wands it would simply show the number of charges the wand had left and be red once its 0.

For staves, artifacts, egos etc it would show how much "power" it had left.

e.g. At the moment I have assigned the snow giand wraps to a hotkey. It currently shows as:

Code: Select all

Snow Giant Wraps (0 def, 2 armor) (1)
But would be better if it displayed the ability and power. Like
Throw Boulder 1/6
And it would be red if the current power was less that required for the ability. In this case less than 6.

Probably a pain the whatsit to do, but would be "nice"

PS: In the current display, what does the (1) in brackets mean? Something linked to ammo?

Edit: Sorry, not saying this is not a bug. Meant to post this in the "ideas" forum (too many open tabs...). Feel free to move it. Thanks

I would be careful with displaying it only as the skill name, as duplicate activations and talents exist. (eg. two weapons of projection, or eelskin armour and mage lightning spell). My suggestion is something like:

Code: Select all

Activation: Throw Boulder level 2 (6) 4/6
Where (6) is the amount of energy required, and 4/6 is current/max energy. It would show up red if current energy is lower than required, so basically what you said.
Some of my tools for helping make talents:
Melee Talent Creator
Annotated Talent Code (incomplete)

What I'd like to see for equipment activations, which is different than inventory activations, is to assign the activation to the equipment slot rather than the object.

This is especially true for the tool slot, but any hotkey that needs to be worn to activate it, should rather be assigned to the slot.

So light:summertide phail
Or neck: choker of dread

Etc.
