Notebook or journal

#1 Post by fearoffours »

I'm playing 4 characters on a variety of computers at the moment, and getting confused about where they've already been. (my current play style includes going around other race starting dungeons and looting them).

I was looking either for some way of having deepest visited level per dungeon listed, or a notebook where the player can enter and view important character notes. (I know it's a complete rewrite, but IIRC these features were present in 2.x.)

I think a notebook would be awesome. The actual notebook could perhaps be uploaded to the online character to give insight into choices. Or ditl like comments.

Each entry should have automatically added (but deletable) clevel and dungeon name and lvl.

Btw you may want to have a look at how to put your saves in a drop box or flash drive. There's a post somewhere about it.

Here is the thread re: syncing saves using Dropbox and symbolic links. I sync quite a few things via dropbox and symbolic links points way already and was going to do this for ToME when I asked if save versions between win and linux were compatible, but got a "No", so didn't bother!

Love your ideas about deletable entries, and Day in the Life Style comments too. Other roguelikes (Vanilla Angband for one) have the simple version of this in the character history (Killed a unique, found an artifact, gained a level)).

I would also really like to have a notebook in-game. It doesn't have to be fancy; something simple to jot down notes would suffice for me.

I'll keep suggesting this wherever I can. If there is an automatic journal or notebook, please have it capture stat and talent point allocation, and possibly changes to the battery of runes/infusions. If good players post the journal in ditls or dumps (or if automatically viewable online), it would be really helpful for bad players like me to see more details of character development.

I'd like to have both automatic journal and manual typed ones... they could be separate... But both could/should be uploaded to the character's profile.

What I'd also like to see is a "grid" that is lvls 1-50 (i'd put that on the Y axis), vertically aligned text for available talents (maybe it could be auto-generated from skills that were actually picked, to make the list smaller). With a DOT at each skill point taken per level.

Similar to this:

But levels should/could go vertical, and obviously there are much more skills available in ToME, but then in the final (maybe and first) put the total amount of points given.

Maybe even put a little popup window the will display the manual text that the player entered while on lvl x, when you hover over lvl X, or a little "book" icon that indicates that something was entered into the journal.

Also, save a snapshot of the items the player has as he levels up.

Neverwinter Nights had a "notes" section of its journal that let you keep notes. Either in main game or in expansions/mods there were more than a few puzzles that had me using it. In light of the transmo chest idea thread, how about a tab in the expanded log window (the one you get when you click on the log at the bottom) that lets you use its space as a notepad?
Having satellite internet is a lot like relying on the processes described in those RFC's for your internet. Except, instead of needing to worry about statues interrupting your connection, this time you worry about the weather. I have satellite internet. Fun, no?
