Smoke cloud rune/spell/infusion

With all the orc patrol trouble, I'd like to suggest borrow idea from Crawl Stone Soup - steam/smoke cloud. It doesn't do damage(or do very small), but block line of sight with exception of infravision or telepathy.
Benefits:
1.Danger of simultaneous one-hit kill form multiple spellcasters will be considerably reduced
2.More tactical depth in the game
3.No nerf needed
4. Could be easily balanced in couple of betas by adjusting cloud radius/propagation speed/dissipation time
5.Monsters doing it would make more challenge to balance player benefits
6.It works well in DCSS, so we know it will not destroy game balance
