Invisibility runes also make the @ invisible.

A work-around for now is to turn on tactical mode (Ctrl+T I think) so that you can see where you are.
<DarkGod> lets say it's intended

Yep, I had the precisely the same thing. All tactical display disappeared on using invis, my particle halos were still visible but stayed on the spot and my @ went missing.

When I turned visible again the screen didn't update, so I still couldn't see myself and the particle effects were still in the wrong place.

Invisibility in t4 is the same as it is traditional in every other RL - something invisible - to see it, you HAVE to be able to 'see invisible' - this includes yourself.

If Darkest Light is giving you the blind status effect this is indeed a bug.

So... this isn't a bug? It's just doing what Angband and Tome 2 did and not letting you see an invisible actor without see invisibility?

I'm confused then. What's the bug?

I don't know if this is related, but when you recover from being blind you cannot see yourself untiol you walk into something. This is very dangerous in the sand hold.
In angband/tome2 you could turn on the option ("cursor follows character" or something like that) which put a box around yourself, so you still knew where you were when invisible. This is equivalent to "Tactical Display", so I reckon that should definitely still work when you're invisible.

So bugs are:

- Tactical display doesn't work when invis
- Particles effects get stuck in one place when invis
- Display is not properly updated when exiting from invis or blindness

Most roguelikes make the display of your character disappear when you're invis and can't see invis, but still show the cursor blinking underneath your character. Thus the disappearance is mostly for flavour (though you still have to be a little more careful of where you are, as the cursor can be hard to see). In ToME the tactical display performs the same function of the blinking cursor.

Can others confirm that the tactical display disappears whilst invis? Looking through videos I have recorded I can see that a char I had in an older video had no problems with the tactical display when using invis potions, and even had the @ symbol visible at times, and didn't have any problems with auras/particle effects. Another vid I have of beta18 clearly shows the tactical display around the player disappearing, the particle aura getting stuck in place when teleporting, and the player still being impossible to see after invis wears off (though mouse-over tool-tip can show the location).

Another possibly related tactical display issue - not sure if its a bug.
Sometimes hidden baddies (typically rougues) will leave a tactical display box behind. i.e. You will see a red box a few squares away, and be fighting an unseen opponent right next to you. Often the red box is not properly aligned to the grid. I actually like it, if I see the red box it gives me the hint that something sneaky is about.

I would think that while stealthed - all tactical displays on stealthed enemies should be removed - otherwise I can still see them.

Same here. The tactical display of stealthed creatures has been buggy for a little while.

In fact it should remove it from all actors that are stealthed?

How about this?

" Actors under Stealth and/or Invisibility along with other visible hiding effects should have the tactical display removed from around their representative icon - including the player character. The reasoning behind this is that a tactical display box is a marker for where an actor is. When an effect that is meant to conceal locations of actors is directly prevented from doing so, such as the tactical display box being displayed while these effects are active, it is bad. Please, fix this. "

Is that more direct, precise, informative and easier to understand for you?

I don't agree on the tactical display being removed from the player. From the character's standpoint he can still see where he is relative to everything else - he just can't see his own body.

Perhaps it should be removed when controlling allies though.
